Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

1/3 way through Californicaton S4.....next season prob should be the last. There has to be an ending to this story. Honestly, it's starting to rely on zany sitcom situations right now (the monkey, the internet pic, etc). Unless something really good happens, this is a show in decline. It's still good, but it's not great, like it was the first 3 seasons.

I take it back (except for next season should be the last). That 4th ep was just a blip on the radar. Ep8 was awesome. The music throughout the series has been great, in selection for the "mood" of the episode/series. "Home Sweet Home" by Crue was a PERFECT selection for the ending of Ep8. I don't care if I'm accused of using a recent South Park joke, but the subtext of the last few minutes really turned the series back into what it started off to be.

Is episode 8 the last one on the first disk? I just got done with that one, this season has been pretty good so far. The mother/daughter thing was hilarious.

Yeah, it's the last on the first disc. I just had major problems with the 4th ep in that season. And agreed about the mother/daughter. You knew it was coming, but the writing made it hilarious. I dunno whether I wish I was Hank, or I hate Hank. Or think he deserves any sort of sympathy. What an odd character. So complex, which is why I loved the show in the first place.

With my recent juggling of girls, I feel like Hank, with less naked Handyman relatives in my life, and without the jailbait.

Yeah, you kinda got that vibe to ya. So who's Runkel? MNS? :D And don't you DARE call me Nero. Although minus the uh, method actor thing, it'd be a close call....

You're Ashby, from a couple seasons ago. MNS could be Runkel, except Runkel's gotten some really hot *** this season.

Ok, I can live with that. At least you didn't accuse me of being the Dean or Bates. Or for that matter, Rick Springfield, even though he rocked the part.

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

I cheated. Checked out the S5 trailer for Californication. Impressive. And I may get my wish that S5 is the last....

Yeah...I didnt need to see some of the stuff that man does ;)

After the end of S4 I would not be surprised if S5 is the end...in fact I think I can almost predict how it will play out.

The thing is, how S4 ended, I would have been fine with that being the series end. I dunno why, since the whole "thought I saw something" scenes kept that main question raised, but I thought it was a nice tie-up.

Walking Dead: Darrel is a full on badass, and the farm is not exactly paradise.

Nothing changes the mood like a room full of zombies.

Ah yeah...what the hell is the deal with the zombies in the barn? The old dude better have a good explanation for that.

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

Anybody try Hell on Wheels yet? I've been meaning to catch up on it because it seems like something I'd be interested in, but haven't had the chance yet, and it's received pretty tepid reviews.

I watched the first episode, and have the second one DVR'd. It started a little slow, but from what I can tell it is building a foundation for what could be a very good show. I am planning on keeping up with it for a little while, and let some of the storylines develop some, so I can get a better idea of what it will really be like.

Good thing AMC allows you to do that. If it was on Network TV it might be off the air already. Let storylines develop? What a crazy idea!

Which shows this year didn't have time to have their storylines develop? I might agree with you in theory, but c'mon, not a whole lot of plot development going on with Charlie's Angels, etc.

Do you really think Cheers had much of a plot, either? And yet, it's the prime example of a show being given time to develop, and would be axed by 99% of executives these days for bad first year ratings.

Year? Executives these days would look at that last place finish after week one and schedule some reality crap to fill its time slot for the rest of the season.

Yes, that's obviously a fine counterexample. But the original question remains, which series this year were not given time to let their storylines develop? If Mario Lopez had been given a few more celebrities to go bother, people totally would have bought in, right?
