TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

I have no idea who this Honey Boo Boo Child is, but someone somewhere needs to be slapped repeatedly for her existence.

Yes.
This is why America can not have nice things. I have to wonder if the equivalent of "The Cosby Show", "Cheers" or "MASH" was on today, would they get buried by some awful reality show?

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

My boyfriend told me if I watched that Honey Boo Boo show that he'd break up with me. So I watched it, and yet he is still living in my house. Sadly, I think the 5 year old is smarter than the mother on that show.

I used to like Pawn Stars, and I'll still watch it because nothing else is on. I'm getting sick of the Subway commercials mixed into the show though. They did that on American Pickers this week and it ****ed me off. I see enough commercials and product placement, I don't need the commercial as part of the show.

Of the Pickers/Pawn/Auction type shows, Auction Hunters is my favorite. Sure it's staged, but it is focused more on what they find than the people involved, they find some interesting stuff, and Allan Haff isn't awful to look at.

Swamp People and Deadliest Catch have the same value to me... I love the whole man vs nature side of it.... As an avid fisherman and general outdoors person, I can relate to a good chunk of what the people on there face... Knowing several people that also have to rely on nature for a good source of income is something else that helps me relate to the show...

Pawn Stars is cool for the random history that comes up on it... The main draw is the "Hidden Treasure" aspect of it... I've watched Antiques Roadshow from time to time, but that was just too geared towards older folks for me... This is just more interesting and easier to absorb the information... I love seeing what makes a 1960 Gibson Guitar worth $4200 and what could make it worth $42,000.... This is also the "Most Real" of these types of shows...

I agree with you on Deadliest Catch and Pawn Stars. I watch both and for pretty much the same reasons. The risk/reward factor on Deadliest Catch is what captivates me along with some of the personalities. On Pawn Stars I just like seeing what an items is worth. I am amazed at what some of the crap is sold/purchased for.

I watch Antiques Roadshow too. It can be a little dull or maybe slow paced is a better way of saying it, but I do like the historical value of the items and learning what makes them valuable.

It's a red flag that someone who's planning a wedding watches TV shows about preparing for a wedding?

I was subjected to these type of shows when my wife was planning our wedding several years ago. Fortunately the wedding came and the viewing of these shows in my home has gone since then. I liken it to a bad cold. There is nothing you can do about it but endure while it is happening and know that eventually it will pass. ;)

If you're the one who owns the house, I'm not surprised that you're also smart enough to recognize an empty threat. :p

Yes.

I have never seen a bride to be on any of those wedding shows, or in any wedding magazine, who, if confronted with her on the street, I would not immediately stab her in the throat for the good of humanity.

Hm, this sounds to me like these comments are coming from a place of advanced knowledge. And how would one gain this knowledge without having first watched the shows and read the magazines? :p

Not sure how I found this, but Veronica Mars is shown on the Soap Opera channel. The pilot was on this week, so I can watch the whole thing from the beginning. Loved that show. Plus watching a young Kristin Bell isn't too bad either.

I finally got around to seeing Asylum of the Daleks and I enjoyed it very much. I won't spoil many details, but I enjoyed Jenna-Louise Coleman (the girl who will play the new companion when the Ponds leave.) She's adorable. I did get a little emotional when the Ponds revealed that Amy can't have kids and the friction between her and Rory was do to that. I'm presently dealing with that as well with my Mrs.

All in all, can't wait for more Who.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

The only reality television I watch anymore is Deadliest Catch and the Gordon Ramsey shows. Everything else is absolute trash. 95% of what History puts out now is garbage. H2 is my favorite channel. Save for the garbage aliens and conspiracy shows they have on.

Going through my DVR series priority list:
The Newsroom
Person of Interest
Kitchen Nightmares
Touch
Hell's Kitchen
MasterChef
The Universe
Modern Marvels
Deadliest Catch
Beer Geeks
Craig Ferguson
Top Gear
A few random food network shows
Then I have the DVR fill itself up with Law & Order reruns so I can watch them if nothing is on (they delete when space is needed)

A lot of the best series I wait until they come out on DVD before I watch them (Breaking Bad, Futurama, etc.) I prefer watching entire seasons at a time. An episode or two a night for a month or so. Depending on my mood and what chores I have around the house.

I might have found a new show. Counting Cars. Awesome. They just had a Superbird on there.

I have to say I was quite suprised by Touch. Figured the subject matter would hit a little too close to home for me, but they way they work the kid's issues into the show is quite well done and the plot lines are very good. The first 15 minutes of each show are always confusing because there isn't anything to tie the stories together, but it always works out in the end. Horay for the magic of TV!
