Re: TV Shows 6: Abed and Troy in the Morning! Havvveeee you met Ted's Wife yet?

Anyone know the status of The Event? I see it's now been pushed back to March, airing 2 episodes on the same night. That's usually the fate of a canceled show, but I can't find anything definitive.
Well, if you want to look on the bright side, the reason it was pushed back was to allow 'The Cape' to complete its 10 episdoe run (cut from 13) before 'The Event' started back up again. Or...you could argue this gives them more time to rewrite and come up with a permanent ending. I enjoy 'The Event' but know that its ratings need to improve if there's going to be a season 2 which is difficult with what type of show it is (e.g. a complicated one that's difficult to pick up in the middle of, not a bad one IMO :p).

"What's a human suitcase?" "You know it's that thing where a midget on roller skates wears all of your clothes and you pull him through the airport."

Stefon? OK, now I've gotta watch last night's SNL.

That's pretty much the only thing that didn't suck. And where the hell was half of the cast?

I was thinking the same thing. Vanessa Bayer is the new Kristin Wiig, she's in way too many sketches. I like that Taran Killam is used a bit more now, but where was Samberg, Sudekis, Kenan Thompson, Bobby Moynihan? I actually liked the entire Weekend Update, other than that, I thought everything was a little bit too complex.

But at least she's funny. I can't believe that had Kristin Wiig do that stupid prize winner announcer. It's just a riff on the same character she plays in pretty much evey skit (with the exception of her Nancy Pelosi impression, which I don't mind). Russell Brand was OK. His monlogue seemed to be really long, though. And was it me or did it seem like there were no castmembers on stage at the end during the good bye? It's like he had his entire posse there. Maybe the cast didn't want to be seen anywhere near that asswipe. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

I liked the show more than I didn't. Meh.

I was looking up something this morning and ran across some gab website that suggested two FOX shows, Human Target and Lie to Me, are both going to be cancelled. I would hate this. Does anybody watch these shows besides me?

I am a big fan of Human Target but with the moving time slots the cancellation does not surprise me.

Actually Human Target might survive because it has been getting impressive ratings when following Idol. Lie To Me is certainly dunzo. Human Target suffered with Ilsa Pucci who was flat out awful. She was annoying as hell.

Agree with whomever said House was getting tedious. Just watched last week's episode and did not like it one bit. Totally against character for Cuddy. I did like the style of filming for the episode (not sure who directed), but the dark tones and lighting were excellent.

Watching Being Human, Pretty Little Liars, Face Off, House, Top Chef, and Archer on a regular basis. Have the whole first part of The Event, but haven't gotten around to watching it yet...

I like this season of House. The new doctor (the young female prodigy) has been a fantastic addition to the cast. I didn't think last weeks episode was out of character for Cuddy. Her mother seems to bring something different out of her than usual.

While I hate the Miley Cyrus sketch (I don't care if it's a spot-on impression, I just don't like it) (and it's almost a given it'll be included in two weeks), she's OK in some other stuff, at least considering in ones where they need female cast member she's better than the rest of their female cast. But the TV show one she did near the end was awful, though I can't blame her, that would have been bad from the start regardless of who was in it.

The real problem has been the reliance this season on TV show skits. They can occasionally be bad, but they have been way too much of a fallback crutch this year.

Also, I don't think I can really tell the different between Taren Killam (sp?) and Paul Brittan, mainly because it seems they're hardly in anything and they're both non-descript white guys. Taren is the one they seem to be leaning towards, right?

Also, Jay Pharoah seems promising and all, but I'd like to see him in something that isn't a) an impression of a black celebrity or b) a more or less blatant racial stereotype.

That prize winner sketch with Wiig was awful when they did it when Emma Stone hosted, I don't see who though they should bring it back. The same with that "Secret Word" game show sketch they feel the need to repreatedly bring back though it was never funny even once (as opposed to "What Up With That?", which was OK the first time and maybe the second, but after that was run into the ground).

While Seth Meyer is a great personality for Weekend Update, perhaps he is not the best head writer.

Vanessa Bayer is on the Wiig hate block now? Really?

No, I actually don't hate Vanessa Bayer. I just think she's been in way too many sketches recently. For as funny as Andy Samberg and Jason Sudekis are, they have barely been on the show this year. Kristin Wiig I do dislike a lot, she plays the same character in every sketch it seems. The one thing I really enjoy about Vanessa Bayer is that she actually knows when to give time for comedic pauses. Wiig will wait after each "joke" until someone finally laughs.

By the way, I'm amused by how Bill Hader can't even remotely get through a whole Stefon bit lately without breaking. I understand that the whole point of the character is how ridiculous everything he says is, but I really think at this point the writers are just messing with him.

There was some discussion/speculation on another board I frequent that he does not know the script till he's on air, which would make me understand why he always laughs during it. Because he has no problems with any other skit he's in. I like that idea, because it does add something to the sketch to make it more fun.

That could be; it looks like he's reading cue cards when he's doing that character, and he doesn't generally seem to do that.

It's exactly why he is always laughing during it, he gets a "script" that basically says the jist of the conversation, but not the actual lines.

I wondered that too because in pure acting and impersonating ability he's the best on the show and the least likely usually to crack up, which makes it odd he does then but all the more funny. Especially this week, it took everything he had just to get the lines out before laughing.
