TV, or not TV, that is the question

Re: TV, or not TV, that is the question

Caught up on Fargo this afternoon. Wow. This is easily the best show on TV, at least until GoT comes back.

Was stuck at my parents house all week, stuck in network TV hell. I witnessed the worst acting I've ever seen on a supposed legitimate TV show in a terrible episode of NCIS New Orleans. Hope I never have to suffer through another episode of that trash.

I'm only about halfway through The Man in the High Castle, and I highly recommend it thus far. It's based upon a Phillip K. Dick novel of the same name. Actually, if you're eligible for a free trial of Amazon Prime, I highly recommend getting it for the trial period just to watch a few of their original shows. Red Oaks was fun too, half-hour comedy with an HBO feel to it (language, drug references and brief nudity). They have a few other worthwhile shows, too, these are just the most recent I've watched.

I was discussing this with a friend today, and chances are one would qualify for a free Prime Trial, for no reason whatsoever. I'll wait until the season is done, get my trial, and burn through it. Then repeat next year. ;)

Good to hear. TCBG has mentioned repeatedly that he's interested in watching - he's a big Dick fan.

I can't stand NCIS or really anything on that channel. NBC, Fox, and ABC for me. And only a few shows.

Otherwise it's pay TV.

I've completely given up on network for any drama. Like Last Man On Earth as a comedy, and Mom isn't terrible (surprisingly).

There's no drama on network that can touch the top cable/HBO/Netflix shows. Right now its a dead heat between Fargo, Game of Thrones and The Leftovers.

While no longer, I'll put Hannibal up against those, and I think Person of Interest is right up there. And it might just be me, but when Supernatural's at its best, it can be just as good as anything else on TV.

I'm guessing you mean the Big Three: CBS, NBC, ABC.

I agree with you there for just about ANY show.

I think FX has had some great shows in the past couple of years.

FX. I don't know if that's truly considered on the same tier as AMC/HBO/whatever. It's a part of Fox, obviously....

Sons Of Anarchy and The League were great series.

FX also did Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Archer. Also - American Horror Story, The Americans, Louie, Justified, The Shield, Rescue Me among others.

Thank you. Forgot about some of those, even though some were not up my alley.

I think you misunderstood Dx's post. FOX is network TV, like CBS, NBC, and ABC. Not the same thing as FX.

NBC had Community. In general, the networks are garbage because they aim for a garbage demographic. They design shows for the people who sing "all my rowdy friends are here on Monday night!" I mean, they do Survivor, Amazing Race, and The Bachelor. :)

Re: TV, or not TV, that is the question

I like plenty on network tv...and I am hardly a Hank Williams type guy. I like when my shows resolve in an hour sometimes...long storyarchs make single episodes boring to me. (hence why I never liked 24) I can binge watch that stuff later. I dont need every episode of a show to have someone die with a then shoehorned in cliffhanger.
