Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

dx - here is Part 1 of the podcasts. Within each (I've only listened to 2 so far) they go into great detail about decisions they made in filming, about sets, locations, the real people involved, additional stories and facts they couldn't fit in, writing decisions, why they didn't go with Eastern European accents, etc. It's quite fascinating and you won't be disappointed.

I also saw this pop up as suggested content - it's a 1998 BBC documentary about the aftermath of the disaster. I have not watched it yet so I cannot say recommend or stay away yet.

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

So Emma, who defeated Jeopardy James, is putting together a nice little streak of her own...

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

Long rumored to have happened, yet denied by Donald Bellisario to have ever been filmed (contrary to the actress and crew stating it happened, a crew call sheet for the filming that day, the script, and behind-the-scenes photographs that showed this scene being filmed), the lost ending to Quantum Leap has surfaced.

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

Oh geez I read about that years ago. My buddy and I as a fun little way to kill time bartending wrote a sequel based off that ending back in 2005 ;)

It was never a well kept secret it happened :)

We are such a weird species.

The Chernobyl tours company SoloEast saw a 30% increase in tourists going to the area in May 2019 compared with the same month in 2018. The HBO series premiered May 6 and aired its finale June 3. SoloEast director Sergiy Ivanchuk told Reuters that bookings for June, July, and August have bumped up 40% in the aftermath of the HBO series airing around the world. Fellow tour group Chernobyl Tour has seen a similar increase.

All of the attention around the Chernobyl disaster has caused a stir in Russia. The Moscow Times reports the Kremlin is outraged that American television got to tell the story of Chernobyl before the Russian media.

You had three decades. What were you waiting for?

They won't be in business long. Soon they'll be shut down and the new tour will take over. You know, the one where America did everything. They may even get Steven Seagal to play the American CIA agent who infiltrated Chernobyl!

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

Still beats the heck out of a North Korean propaganda tour.

I was watching a documentary on NatGeo (I guess it's a series but I don't see the other two episodes coming up soon) about Michael Palin going to North Korea. It was interesting, but every single segment ended with "I can't help but feel like they're being reserved/they're not telling me what they're really thinking/this is just a scene to make things look better."

Color me shocked. You weren't going to suddenly be the first one to get every North Korean to share their true feelings on the regime.

There are tours of asbestos mines and mine towns in Australia. It’s called extreme tourism. It also has been known to include tours of the green zone in Iraq.

Like the show Dark Tourist on Netflix. In one show they swim in a lake formed by a nuclear blast in Kazakhstan

While I understand the concept of it, I'll let others document those things for me and watch it on tv. I may be crazy, but I ain't stupid. ;)
