TV: One Person's Trash...

Apparently so does Oliver.

Gotta admit, the clips he showed were amazing. I wonder how he was able to get the rights. Is parody "fair use"?

I've had a soft spot for wrestling ever since reading Barthes. If you ever see "Mythologies," read the whole essay -- it's hysterical.

Have you read Bob Mould’s book See A Little Light?

There’s a great section on his stint scripting wrestling and friendship with I think Kevin Nash.

I grew up in the Midwest and watched all the AWA stars like Jesse Ventura, Adrian Adonis, Road Warriors etc. fun times

Honestly, it is. Intelligent people are the exception. And I say that with the username I have.

Most of the real meatheads have been siphoned off by UFC/MMA. WWE will never be a black tie event at Carnegie Hall, but it's way hipper than it was.

This. Most of the meatheads love them some MMA, Country bumpkins love their NASCAR, and nerds love wrestling. Most wrestlers are just nerds who work out.

Of course, the main problem with WWE is Vince hates wrestling.

Killing Eve

Been seeing this advertised. Tried getting it on Demand, was not available for free so I passed. Well, they had an encore of S1E1 last night and just watched it and glad I did. One of the better premiere's of any show I've seen. It's a BBC show but they're showing it on AMC. Marathon on AMC for the entire season 1 is next Sunday. Then the season 2 premiere is on Sunday right after the marathon is over.

A Discovery of Witches

Also, a British show from Sky One? Never heard of that network. Anyway, next Sunday after Killing Eve they are premiering S1E1 and I plan on checking it out. Seen it advertised for a while but it was always just streaming somewhere and now that I have an opportunity I am going to check it out.

Thanks for posting this! Set the TiVO for all of the Killing Eve episodes and Discovery of Witches. I read Discovery of Witches and was looking forward to the show, but originally it was only available on the Sundance Subscription channel.

Vince doesn't really "hate" wrestling so much as he's megalomaniacal about not going down in history as merely "the rasslin' guy." He wants to be a Ted Turner type, that's why he's pushing movies, reality shows, the XFL, etc.

A man who consolidated the territories and built the biggest pro wrestling empire in the world, desperately trying to run away from his core product. Kinda like the joke about McDonald's being a real estate company that happens to sell hamburgers.

Yeah, that’s what I was inferring to in my comment. He doesn’t hate wrestling he just hates the stigma of being a wrestling guy. The “Vince hates wrestling” meme comes from Vince (and others like Kevin Dunn) basically bending over backwards to avoid calling it wrestling, “WWE Superstars” and “Sports Entertainment” being the biggest.

I know you know this Twitch but, for others, I recommend Jim Cornette’s take (NSFW).

You bet. I was hoping it would help someone else since both of these series I had been watching out for to see if I could watch them or not.

I'm a New Yorker so I was World Wide Wrestling Federation. Ivan Putski, Chief Jay Strongbow, Gorilla Monsoon, and Bruno Samartino FTW. Also: Captain Lou Albano, Superstar Billy Graham, Classy Fred Blassy, Ivan Koloff.

Nice! I remember Strongbow, Samartino, Monsoon and Freddy Blassy.

Hanna is excellent. The actress who played Sophie in 1.2 should get an Emmy just based on it.
