TV: Give Me That Remote!

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

I thought the Jessica ending was anti-climatic. All that buildup and the *poof* ok we're done here. Wish it were a little more intense.

Yeah, but there was zero payoff in Luke Cage. So, all we're getting is more build up. Jessica Jones set a goal and accomplished it. It was plenty intense as it arced the entire season.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

So, Young Pope finale. Um. Did Arthur C. Clarke write that?

I would not say I enjoyed it, but it was moving and thoughtful. I'm sure there are as many interpretations as viewers. My interpretation is that Lenny is no longer fighting himself, so if/when the show returns it will be less about his internal dynamics and more about the contradictions and tensions inherent in being an absolute sovereign (1) in a world of limited, democratic governments and (2) in a hierarchy in which you are both all powerful and completely powerless under the Big Cheese Himself. Less Lenny, plenty of Pius.

I think this has the potential to be the most intellectually challenging and rigorous show on television with the exception of WestWorld. It was handled with the same amount of grace and humor. We are living in the golden age of TV dramas.

Legion is really, really good. Just watched the first episode. Easily as good as the other marvel universe creations. Maybe better.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

So I watched season 1 of Black Mirror Saturday night while my wife was out of town...very interesting but I'm still not sure what to think...I know she won't watch it, I tried to explain the first 3 episodes to her and she just wanted me to stop...especially after the pilot...haha

Yeah, other than San junipero ep, I'd say the overall themes don't change a lot in seasons 2 or 3

At least you watched the actual first season. Recommended it to my friend and he raved about the first episode after he saw it. Then said he finished the first season so I asked him how he liked Fifteen Million Merits. He had no idea what I was talking about. For awhile, and maybe still, Netflix was using their season, which is actually season 3, as the first season you see.

yeah, it still defaults to start playing S3E1 but I noticed and wanted to start at the beginning.

Anyone else check out Big Little Lies on HBO last night? The premise is good and it looks like it's going to be a great mini-series.

I'm reading the book right now for book club. I'll start watching when I'm done. Loving the book. Hope the series meets expectations.

I'm interested in giving Sun Records a try about the early days of rock 'n roll in Memphis surrounding Sam Phillips, Col. Tom Parker, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Carl Perkins etc. with of course the backdrop of the early days of the civil rights movement.

Legion episode 3. Still great. Also one of the most beautifully filmed TV shows I've seen.

After seeing a preview, I looked this one up. Saw its some kind of silly super hero comic book show. Nope. No way. Not wasting time with stupid super hero shows. I have enough good shows to watch.

It isn't. Trust me. Watch the pilot. It's Marvel but it towers over their childrens' stuff like Avengers. Forget about the Universe and just watch it as a psychological drama. It's smart and moving.

I assume it will eventually hook up with the Universe and become adolescent and unwatchable like the rest of that franchise machine but right now, at this instant, it's High Art.
