TV: Give Me That Remote!

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

I should really watch this because I remember thinking at the time, "welp, she's guilty," and really had no reason for it.

It's really close, given the evidence (and lack of evidence). I probably should have said she's "not guilty," instead of "innocent."

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Slow can be fine if done well, but episodes 2-5 of the first season of Man in the High Castle are pretty much a shaggy dog waste. They're basically there to stretch the thing out to 10 episodes and save some budget for the pilot and finale to impress people that think Game of Thrones is prestige television.

I haven't seen S2 yet, but I heard it really went off the rails when they fired the show runner. It sounds like it could easily turn from 'Meh, it's on' to a fun hatewatch.

I tried to watch the pilot of man in the high castle and fell asleep. Haven't tried again

I fell asleep watching the pilot of The Expanse. Due to lots of io9 love I tried again during the holiday break, and after 4 episodes I really like it.

Also, I fell asleep the first time I went to see Raiders of the Lost Ark, but in my defense I was very, very drunk. In retrospect I still don't understand how I could fall asleep during what is arguably the best action sequence to open a movie in history.

My wife tried to watch it, but fell asleep the couple times she gave it a shot.

i've enjoyed it though. I like dystopian / alternate reality stories, and I don't mind that it is 'slow'. Slow seems appropriate for this story to me.

What evidence is there that she did it, though? Even then DNA was basically a joke given how cross-contaminated the scene was. It basically boils down to the investigator being a wannabe-psychologist nutjob.

There is none. The extent of their "evidence" that they ended up having was her demeanor and reaction at the time of questioning, which is not evidence at all. Everything else was proven wrong, contaminated, and thrown out. The whole thing was a sham.

I don't think she actually DID it, but I'm not sure she didn't have some knowledge of something related to it, that sort of thing. I'd say accomplice worst case (which is a stretch), or obstruction of justice (more likely; withholding info, etc)

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

So I watched the first half dozen or so episodes of Black Mirror. For what it's worth, after the first 15 minutes of the opening episode, The National Anthem, any of you who recommended this series were officially banned from my wife's "trusted referrer" list, although by that point I was hooked.

In order, that first episode was brilliant. Fifteen Million Merits sucked. The Entire History of You and Be Right Back were meh. At that point I started to have my doubts. But then came White Bear, with it's very A Clockwork Orange vibe, and the spectacular The Waldo Moment, which for reasons I can't quite put my finger on feels familiar to me. :p

All in all, I'd say it's been worth it thus far. There have been a couple of real clunkers, but those great episodes seem to make it worth it.

I thought Fifteen Million Merits was my favorite of Season 1. I think which episodes you like will depend on what issues you are more exposed to at the time. I watched The Waldo Moment 3 years ago, it didn't have the punch then that I'm sure it does now.

"Fifteen Million Merits" was brilliant. You're insane.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Finished Daredevil Season 1 finally. Defenders coming this year finally got me motivated for Marvel TV. Pretty good first season. 2 Episodes into season 2. Then Jessica Jones. Then Luke Cage. Iron Fist comes in March. Defenders by the end of the year I'm guessing. Pretty good stuff. Really helped that Comcast allows Netflix over their system now.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Started rewatching The X-Files from the beginning on Netflix. Waiting to see how long it takes for my wife to be hooked, since she hasn't seen it before.

Also, not sure which of these I've mentioned, but I watched The OA and Season 3 of The Fall on Netflix, and 2 seasons of Bosch on Prime. The OA was pretty good, but I thought it really dropped off in the finale, until that last episode it was great. I'm assuming season 3 of The Fall is the last, and it wasn't great. Yeah, it created some finality to the story, but it seemed just unnecessary. Bosch isn't incredible, but it is entertaining, and definitely kept me interested through 2 seasons. I liked it and recommend it if you like police/investigation TV shows.

Started watching Happy Valley on Netflix, didn't hook me, so I'm not sure if I'm going to keep going with it. Also tried watching Marco Polo, but I only made it 15 minutes before it was obvious that it was hot garbage. Wife and I started Man in the High Castle, so far, like that one, though, it does seem slow like others have mentioned. Will stick with it though.

Not sure what else to watch, have so many options now with Prime, Netflix and HBO Go.

I enjoyed Bosch. The guy playing Bosch always looks one second away from stabbing someone :D If you liked that watch Goliath with Billy Bob...very cool especially once the main story gets going in high gear :)

Go and want Jessica Jones before season 2 of Daredevil. That's how the timelines work. There isn't a huge overlap between them, but there are some references made in JJ to DD's first season, and DD's season 2 has a few JJ references. It's not devastating to go out of order, but, well, you know.

Each series is compelling in it's own way. Daredevil stands out because of Vincent D'onfrio. The interactions between Foggy, Matt, and Karen drive the story, but Wilson Fisk is what makes the series compelling and made me want to binge instead of waiting in between episodes.

Jessica Jones is much more psychological and again has a compelling villain thanks to David Tenant. As mentioned, you might want to watch this before Daredevil S2. Although it's nothing integral, I think that the arc that Matt, Foggy, Karen, and others throughout Hells Kitchen go through makes a bit more sense when the events of Jessica Jones are known. There are themes that begin to come together for the Defenders miniseries in Daredevil S2.

Luke Cage is very much its own thing. This is the weakest Marvel series on Netflix, but I enjoyed it. I feel that this was a rough adaptation and we got about a good a product as was possible given the source material. For the first time, a villain didn't take top billing for me. Misty Knight was the standout character here.
