TV: Give Me That Remote!

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Gilmore Girls was a very good show. It's a bit like HIMYM in that it got so so bad at the end that when I catch a random earlier episode from time to time, I'm almost surprised at how good it is.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Anyone else happen to catch the "Legends of the Hidden Temple" made-for-TV movie? Obviously not quite the game show we all know and love, but a really cool throwback to nostalgia.

Anyone watching Mars? Any good?

Edit: From a metacritic review
A weird attempt to blend documentary and sci-fi, Mars is an exquisite botch of both. Its only real accomplishment is to set back the reputation of executive producer Ron Howard to the days when he was murdering the mommies of adorable little baby birds on The Andy Griffith Show.

Jeebus.

Empire Of The Tsars:

BBC 3 part show, focusing on the Romanov dynasty of Russia. Some stuff they glossed over (had to, because of time) but a well-done series on that era of Russian and the results of the very different attitudes within that family. Recommend as a good base to Russian history.

So I admit that part of the allure of Survivor for me is the occasional eye candy, but after Week 1 and Week 2 voting results I'm far less intrigued now in Gen X vs. Millennials . ;)

Although since I only watch about every 2nd or 3rd season now it'll be a bit easier to sustain my interest than it was a few years ago when I was still watching every season.

This has been a very good season for strategy.

Crazy Exgirlfriend has crossed the Rubicon. I don't know if they'll be able to pull off another season without the entire driving premise of the original season, but hey, kudos for trying. Personally I was disappointed with the resolution episode (except for the tap number, which was brilliant), but once again I am 30 years older and a different gender than the target demo. Donna Lynne Champlin has an incredible voice.

Just got caught up on Pitch, and all I have to say is... BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I've only seen the first season on Netflix since the local CW station doesn't come in well on my rabbit ears. Despite how it's marketed, the show can relate to anyone out there who's ever been in a relationship. Funny stuff all around.

It's the best show I have seen about what being single is really like. They do a great job of capturing the maddening "stickiness" of relationship problems. I also love how advice is inevitably not bad exactly, but fairly irrelevant, or at best at a wildly acute angle to the issue.

I also love how the show is unsparing of Rebecca. How many shows -- sitcoms at that -- have as their central character someone who is at the core just not a good person? And not bad in the kind of "flawed but well-meaning" sense, but bad as in "you should avoid this person, they are radioactive"? Typically those characters are either redeemed or they are a tangential foil for the main character, but I can't think of one who is central and shows no movement away from their central "factory of badness."

It's a better show than it ought to be. Or has been. I dunno how they are going to continue now.

The station on Roku does quite well...or you can get a Chromecast and stream it from the web site. CW does a great job with that IMHO.

I just got the CW app on my Apple TV, but I missed the first few episodes of the season to the point where the CW app has expired the first few episodes for the current season and figured I'll just catch up on the show once this season hits Netflix in the spring. It's a fun show, but not one I want to see immediately upon release. I've started in with a few of their shows like that, actually, just starting Arrow and then I'll move on to The Flash when the timelines meet up for that. Perhaps I'll be in a position to be caught up by the time next season hits for these shows.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

It really has been one of the better ones that I can remember for that aspect.

I think part of the improvement is they finally figured out that when Peachy blows a plan out of the water it makes the ensuing play less interesting. A lot of former contestants have complained and this year they've really forced him to keep it in his pants. This has taken some of the focus off him and put it back on the cast where it belongs. That is A Good Thing.

A “Jeopardy!” contestant who died from cancer on Monday will make the show’s first posthumous appearance on the Dec. 13 episode.

Cindy Stowell, a science-content developer from Austin, Texas, lost her battle with cancer at age 41, but not before she achieved her dream of competing on “Jeopardy!” the New York Post reported.

She filmed her episode in August, although only host Alex Trebek and a few staffers knew of her diagnosis at the time. Stowell was allowed to tape her appearance just three weeks after auditioning because she told a producer she only had six months to live.
