TV: Give Me That Remote!

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

I just wrapped up episodes four and five. What a couple of brilliant pieces. The ending on five was marvelous. Predictable, but marvelous.

when the man in black met with Ford, I was extremely excited. There were a lot of questions that came out of that though. Is Ford a host? I'm not sure. They had lines which hinted at it. Plus when the MIB threatened him, it seemed like the entire population of hosts was about ready to kill the MIB.

And then there was the steam shovel. What the hell was that?!

I think the scene where there were playing Carmen during the robbery was one of my favorites of the series so far. The music has been wonderful. It often takes the scenes to new heights, which is impressive given the superb acting. Which reminds me, if Evan Rachel Wood doesn't win best actress I'm going to be extremely disappointed.

I'm also very curious about the logistics of the entirety of Westworld. The village with the day of the dead-like celebration especially. It seemed like the black hat (I can't remember his name) seemed to indicate that his company owned it..? Who does he work for?

Between this and GoT, it's going to be fun to see how many awards HBO is going to scoop up. I don't see them losing many.

ETA: the deep philosophical questions have started to slow down it seems. Really just the black hat, white hat dynamics. I'm a little disappointed but I assume these pick up again as the season comes to a close. I really want this show to stay the thinking man's GoT. If it just turns into an excuse for boobs and guns, I'm going to be upset.

I thought GoT was the thinking mans GoT?

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

It kind of is. But GoT never got me to question what humanity is.

I think there is plenty in GoT to question humanity. Just not in the same way that Westworld does it. GoT does it by focusing on humans that that are at various levels of culture/civilization while Westworld is more explicit in creating non humans than skirt the line of humanity.

We will, we will, grok you.

A lot of that book is inner dialog.

Why do I worry that we're going to get Opposite Day Avatar?

(This is why I hope nobody does an adaptation of Ursula Le Guin's books for another 20 years or so. Current filmmakers are not up to it.)

Oh good, Duck Dynasty is calling it quits.

I remember when A&E had quality programming on, such as American Justice. Then they went to ****.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Grand Tour...heck of a way to start out.

Dat intro.

ETA: If you're watching on Amazon Prime and hit pause, trivia relevant to the current segment will pop up. Cool!

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

I am watching Goliath on Amazon...it is pretty good. A bit cliche but Billy Bob kills it :)

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

1st episode of the Grand Tour was quite good. I said to my wife and kids I guarantee Richard will say, "It's rubbish" when he steps out of the McLaren and he did. :)

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

I suppose I'll give in at some point. HOC, Americans, and Saul don't start up for a while.

You won't regret it. It was far better than it had any right to be.

Also you can watch it now before they ruin it with S2.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Flipping channels and came across, "Live PD" on A&E. Not only was I surprised to see that in this concept (they've picked 6 U.S. locales to focus upon every week) that Bridgeport, CT is a good source for regular unlawful opportunities, but on a grander scale by some of the crime stats they posted onscreen that CTis a bad *** place. My white bad. :p
