TV: Give Me That Remote!

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

See the only reason I watched all of BB was because I binged it. The show was painfully slow and week to week I would have quit by the end of season 1. When you binge it it moves much better. Then you get to "No Half Measures" and the show really hits its stride.

Same reason I never got into 24...I would watch an episode and realize nothing really happened. I would need to binge the episodes marathon style if I ever wanted to make it through. Havent done that yet though ;)

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

To be fair, 24 was also awful.

Speaking of, I never went back to Designated Survivor after the pilot, which was good except kill his whole family please. Am I missing anything?

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Hard to include GoT in that list. At this point we don't know whether it will diminish or not near the end. The last two seasons could be a huge disappointment.

Hardly. It's gotten better in virtually every season. There is slightly more than one season's worth of episodes left. It's already near the end.

I think season one was he only good season. You really had no idea what was going on, it was a new format, and it was fairly intense. They may have had a couple of other decent seasons but overall, it wasn't great.

I got away from it after a few episodes too...just too many other things I'd rather watch when I have time to watch something that isn't mutually appealing to my wife and I.

I don't agree with this. Shows are definitely better when you are still trying to figure out what's going on (c.f., Stranger Things) but GoT has managed to throw in enough new material and has actually had characters develop. It's not as consistently strong as Mad Men, and its highs will never be as high as the stratospheric West World, but it's still managed to deliver good stuff about half the time. In that way it is very much like Galactica. In a lot of ways I see them as kindred shows. Not just for obvious reasons (the looming existential threat of The Feared hanging over all the factions' heads) but because the writers took a pat and played-out genre (Space Opera, Epic Fantasy) know for lazy, hack writing and spent enough care and attention to turn out something really good and entertaining.

Edit: I think I completely misread your post. I thought you were talking about GoT.

I was reading through this trying to figure out how you were elevating 24 to GoT, Stranger Things, and Westworld levels and I was baffled.

Glad we're on the same page now :D

It's OK. Aside from one minor side plot, they quickly forgot he had kids, which is OK in my book. It's mostly been about figuring out the bombing conspiracy, with the occasional political plotline of the week. Madame Secretary is better if you have time for only one White House show per week.

I just want political intrigue. Personal relationships on those shows are always garbage timewasters thrown in to appease network morons.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

I think Justified held up for the whole series (5 or 6 seasons, can't remember right now).

Breaking Bad held up, for sure. They kept up the general intrigue of what was going to happen next, IMO.

House Of Cards started to slip a little, then made for a very nice recovery this past season.

The Americans is still a strong series, and there are only 2 seasons left.

I think the Americans is the best show out right now

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

I haven't even started it. I tried finding it in Netflix and on demand but neither have it.

It's Amazon exclusive (The Americans) for streaming.

I agree that it is probably the best show right now. HOC is close, but that little slip I mentioned earlier knocks it to #2.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Watching Ink Master on Hulu, Spike forces Hulu to a two-week delay whereas most shows are on a next-day delay.

With that said, Dave Navarro opened the show harnessed, hanging from the rafters. The only thing, the harness used was a pair of piercings in his back. Then one of the stagehands came out to give him a push and he was swinging while announcing the opening of the season finale.

Nope. No way, no how.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

They have an outline from GRRM, but there are quotes out there that they can't end the TV series the same way as the books because they changed something along the way that prevents the outcome - either killed a character or setup the character in such a way that said person must die or isn't in a position to claim the throne. I don't know precisely, and I pretty much gave up on the books shortly after the inclusion of Lady Stoneheart.

The fact that Fat Bastard got so bored with the story that he won't ever bother to finish it should be a clue to how great the story on Game of Thrones is.
