Re: TV: Did you make Barry's List?

Yeah plus none of the Trumpers would watch the show so the ratings would tank. ABC isnt going to pay her money just to stay away it will drive the cost of the show sky high.

Re: TV: Did you make Barry's List?

Fun fact: The lead designer for Magic: The Gathering, Mark Rosewater, was a writer on Roseanne during Season 4.

His article describing his time while tying it to game design lessons is pretty good.

Funniest part:
One of the things the Vegas two-parter did was introduce a new character to the show, Nancy (played by Sandra Bernhard). Nancy was married to Arnie, Tom Arnold's character.
It turns out that there is something called a character creation fee. If you create a character (defined as having written the episode that introduced them), whenever that character appears in another episodes, you get paid. Be aware that I didn't create Sandra Bernhard's character, but because I was one of the writers of the two-part episode that introduced her, I got money (one fourth of the total fee, of course) every time she was on Roseanne. I used to remember turning on the show each week just to see if Nancy showed up. It was a running joke at the time with my roommate to yell "Cha-ching!" the first time she'd appear on screen in an episode.

Tom Paris on star trek voyager was originally supposed to be the character played by the same actor from the Next Generation episode involving Wesley Crusher at the Academy.

That royalty fee prevented that. They kept the general character background but changed a few details and the name.

The fact that Wil Wheaton turned out to be a really interesting guy is among the stranger events IOTL.

Re: TV: Did you make Barry's List?

The series finale of The Americans was absolutely sublime and was almost equal parts satisfying and wanting more. Not for failure to provide closure (life is nearly never like that) but I will miss the show and its characters. So many scenes resonated and beautifully encapsulated what the show always was and how it had to "end". I am satisfied that after the "topsy turvy" signal was sent by Phillip the show didn't go Henry HIll frantic and remained stated and subdued yet every bit as tense and "omg what are they going to do now?". The parking garage scene had some of the best acting one could ask for, the train leaving the depot, Stan's heartbreaking reveal to Henry, Paige having a shot by herself in Claudia's apartment, Oleg's father having to give bad news to his wife, the cold-blooded but again subdued interrogation of the priest, Elizabeth's body language suggesting she was ready to go off on Stan to Phil giving it all up to Stan while lying and telling the truth all at the same time, the "I love you brother but..." nugget he tossed out about Renee, the perfectly timed dream sequence, 3 brilliantly apt and well placed songs and I'm surely missing a few moments.

Sadly there isn't a show I'm currently watching that gives me anywhere close to the same level of goosebumps (Berlin Station could reach that level, Hannibal surely would have had it lasted) and so for me there's definitely a void. It couldn't have ended with a more perfectly played, "silent bang" had it stumbled upon one accidentally. Just wonderful.

Re: TV: Did you make Barry's List?

Agreed on all counts about The Americans except ONE thing:

What was Paige thinking? She gonna get caught. Should have stayed in Canada.

The only show out there that I'm totally tuned into now is Better Call Saul. Dear White People is decent, but I'm not begging for the next episode like recent past shows.

Re: TV: Did you make Barry's List?

The Americans, part deux:

The more I think about it, I think Paige COULD make it out okay. Stan believes Henry knows nothing (which is obviously correct from our POV). Since Paige came back, there's a chance that Stan could lie and clear Paige, also. He's already lied (in essence) to the FBI, by not mentioning his encounter with Phil and Liz. I think Stan wants this part of his life to be done with, due to the massive betrayal.

Anyone watch the premiere of HBO's Succession last night? Thoughts? I'm on the fence about continuing.

Re: TV: Did you make Barry's List?

Saw the first two episodes of Tracy Morgan's The Last O.G. Very funny. I recommend.

The ad campaign was a tidal wave. It looked like it would all come down to how enjoyably the patriarch was played.

West World
may have a done a better job of it over the course of just 3 episodes.

Atlanta. I'm telling you, it's the best show on television right now.

I started watching it but was drifting off to sleep. Not due to the subject matter, though. It seemed pretty interesting so I do want to watch it again.

I also recorded Pose on FX. Was getting some interesting buzz so I want to see it. I was catching up on the last four episodes of Homeland when this started.

I dunno, "on television" is a qualifier, but bbdl and I watched a bunch of Brockmire this past weekend (he owns the 2 seasons) and I'm tempted just to fork over the dough instead of waiting for it to come to Netflix (which it probably will EVENTUALLY happen; usually a 2-3 year delay though).

Have not seen it but heard great things. I will give it a shot.
