Re: TV 4 - Renewed for another thread!!!

Looking to watch some shows on Netflix this summer and was wondering anyone's opinions on the following since I am about done with Psych and The Tudors, I am going to give Breaking Bad a try

Monk
4400
Life
Boomtown
Third Watch
Sports Night
Sarah Connor Chronicles
Spartacus
Profiler
The Mentalist

For those wondering where these came from they are the TV Series that Netflix recommends I try based on other shows I watch.

Monk is fantastic. Can't say much about the others. Especially since SCC got canned.

Never really watched Sports Night and only episodes here and there of the 4400. Only seen Third Watch on reruns on TBS or TNT, but what I've seen has me wishing I'd watched more of it.

All the others I've watched faithfully, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of them. I'd start with Profiler and Life, then the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Profiler's stand-alone episodes can sometimes be hit or miss, but the Jack of all Trades story arc is seriously spooky.

If you want some cartoonish gore along the lines of 300, and lots of nekkid women, then go for Spartacus, I assume the recent Starz series.

Monk was OK. Nothing out of the ordinary, but Tony Shalhoub was really good (though not worthy of three Emmy Awards). Never watched 4400, Life or Boomtown. Third Watch was really good the first two seasons. Then they killed off Bobby Cannavale's character and I lost interest. :) Sports Night was Fan. Tast. Tic. I've asked for the box set of the entire show for Christmas the last two years and still haven't gotten it. I should probably just buy it on my own. Loved it. Loved loved loved it. Watched the first episode of SCC, couldn't get into it. I watched most of Spartacus. It was entertaining, violent and sexy all at the same time. I thought Profiler was OK. Formulaic, but it had its moments. The Mentalist is also CBS formulaic, but I like it because Simon Baker plays that character really well.

And I know there is a separate thread for it, but I just finished watching last Friday's Friday Night Lights and it's hard for me to type as I have just finished sobbing and my eyes are all watery. I just do not understand how this show has not found an audience. I felt like I was intruding on Matt Saracen's life - that was how effortless the acting in that episode was. It was all I could do to not reach through the screen to hug him.

Of those I've watched Life and The Mentalist. Life went downhill fast so don't bother. I like The Mentalist so far. I wonder how long they're going to milk the primary villian and I wonder if the show collapses when that's over.

Re: TV 4 - Renewed for another thread!!!

i'm watching Spartacus. it's ....fine. I wouldn't not recommend it...but you definitely have to be in the mood for that sort of show.

Life went downhill in a hurry about 1.5 seasons in.

The Mentalist I refuse to watch out of principle since its a rip off of Psych. ;)

I'm shocked and amazed. :p

Oh, and if there's any Wire or David Simon fans out there, I was browsing the Amazon sales this morning and saw they have The complete Homicide: Life on the Streets box set for sale for around $70. It's repackaged slim case packaging, but still includes everything the old package did, all the Homicide episodes, the three L&O crossovers, and the movie. The old package was going for over $200.

I re watched all the Homicide episodes last year, had forgotten how much I had abhorred the last season, but Netflix did not have the movie which I would have liked to seen again it seems s if the only way to get a hold of it is by buying the complete box set.

Thanks for all the recommendations I have been wanting to watch Third Watch for a while but only the first 2 seasons are out on dvd and I was waiting for more to be released before watching.

I like it a lot. Had a college buddy who did paper mill runs between Duluth and Two Harbors, and once in a while Brainerd. It was interesting to ride along on those trips.

Like the first lesson I learned:

If it's a deer, you're hitting it. If it's a moose, get ready for ditch time.

I've definitely seen the aftermath of interstate deer/truck collisions. It took a month for the two and a half lane blood explosion to wash away from the rain.

I can't imagine it's a pretty sight. It was also really beautiful at night travelling in the woods (his place was about 1/2 hour north of Two Harbors in the forest).

Re: TV 4 - Renewed for another thread!!!

So I haven't really had a chance to watch last week's episode. Who the **** were those guys? Cartel?

Dealers for Gus. They use little kids to do their dirty work (we found out last week that poor little Tomas was the one who pulled the trigger on Combo earlier in the series).
