TV 20 - Sorry no fancy title

Slap Shot

I got nothing
Looking forward to starting A Gentleman in Moscow with Ewan McGregor. I hope it has the charm and intrigue of the novel.

I want to check out Palm Royale on AppleTV. Has anyone seen it? Or heard of it? Or have any interest in it?

This week's episode of shogun had one of the most satisfying endings of an episode since the first few seasons of Game of Thrones.

The pilot episode was very good, and McGregor is excellent.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him in anything and didn’t think he was excellent .

ironically my favorite thing he’s done is probably the long way round, where he is just himself riding his bike across the globe

I need to see that.

You do. The subsequent two aren’t as good, but still enjoyable.

I also love him in The Impossible, which I just came across again last week. That movie gives me chills for many reasons, least of because I’ve been to a few Thai resorts that only exist now because the tsunami wiped the area out. I’m sure you e been to many of those too

Not sure if the ESPN thread still exists- but it's REALLY interesting that the NCAA BB final 4 semi's are all on cable, but you can see a regular season UFL game over the air on ABC right now.

Raye's two songs on SNL were excellent; her catalog on Pandora is mostly terrible. So, music still exists out there, making allowances for Sturgeon's law.

I watched the first 2 eps of Parish with Giancarlo Esposito. He makes an otherwise ordinary plot bearable but I have this one on a short leash to continue watching.

I was wondering about that! That Final Four was one of CBS Sports' crown jewels. Why on earth were the semis not on network TV?

Ever since they partnered with Turner for broadcasting a decade or so back, TBS and TNT have had turns carrying the Final Four.

I don't like it, but then I'm still wearing an onion on my belt, as was the style at the time.

Yeah, when the initial deal was struck I think CBS got to keep it all thru their original date for four years or whatever it was, and now it’s every other on TBS. And apparently TNT/TruTV, I saw they were simulcasting it. They used the two extra channels for a “homer” broadcast the first one or two times they had it but now it’s just a straight up simulcast.

I wonder if TruTV will cease to exist in the near future. Last week I noticed they were simulcasting the NBA on there with the TNT broadcast. Not that they have a huge variety of shows anymore but I find it interesting that it’s apparently better to show the same regular season game on two networks than put Impractical Jokers or whatever on.

Probably something in the advertising contract that allows a higher rate for simulcast. Likely also TrueTV will be gone soon.
