My wife and I watched the first episode. She liked it

15 minutes in:
Her: I like Roman
Me: it's......complicated

60 minutes in:
Her: I don't really like Roman
Me: it's.... complicated

Succession is one of those shows that definitely got better the more episodes you watched. I started it when it first premiered, couldn't get past the second episode. Then I picked it back up and it got so much better towards the end of the season. And then the second season actually surpassed the first season, IMO. I may need to do what the ads say and rewatch at least the final few episodes of season 2 to refresh my memory.

I'm in the same boat. When I first started watching, I didn't think it was supposed to be funny. I hadn't read anything about the show, I had no idea. So Tom was just nails on a chalkboard out of place.

When I picked it up again after reading about the show, it just clicked then. All of the jokes fell into place. I like how at times it's deeply serious and others it's not. The show does such a good job balancing those two.

See Succession fans are way less annoying than Ted Lasso fans. They can actually tell you why it is a good show or flaws it may have. Ted Lasso fans (in general) tend to sound like this:

TLF: So are you watching Ted Lasso?
Me: Nah I honestly don't watch much TV these days and I don't want to add another streaming service...
TLF: WHAT!?!??!?! ARE YOU FUCKING HIGH!?!?!? It is literally the best thing on TV and you are missing out!!1!!!
Me: I am sure I will watch it later when I can binge it but right now it doesn't interest me. I am glad you love it though that is awesome!
TLF: DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE, you don't even know! This is a show I know you would love it is everything you love about television!
Me: Ok, how so?
TLF: Cause it is like...funny...and the characters are cool...and it isn't about the soccer at all that is a minor thing since I know you don't like soccer!!!
Me: Soccer has nothing to do with this...and you still haven't explained why I would love it...
TLF: CAUSE IT IS AWESOME!
Me: ..........
TLF: Oh whatever you just don't get it!

(DGF this is not you ;^) )

One of my great pet peeves is when people tell me I would like something and should watch it cause they know my tastes. Amazingly they are right about 50/50 ;^)

I will tell you this one thing about Ted Lasso, and why I like it. To me, it literally IS a feel good show. I watched season one last fall and when it was over, I realized it was a show that made me feel...happy. I don't know of many shows that make you feel like that. It was simply delightful. Well acted. Great characters. I don't how else to explain. When my brother came home for Christmas, he hadn't seen it so I watched the entire season a second time and enjoyed it just as much as the first time.

Watching this season, I feel like this should be required watching for teams. Sports teams. Work teams. It says a lot about how a team becomes a family and has each others backs. It really resonates for me. The acting, the casting, it's all top notch. I do think you'd enjoy it, handy. Though I get that, often times, the hype around the show may never live up to it when you watch. It did for me. It didn't for me for The Queen's Gambit.

Who is more annoying? Fans or Fan Police?

Depends what you mean by fan police. I never begrudge anyone liking any show (I get annoyed with proselytizing) but if I had a nickel for every time some "it's the golden age of tv" person critiqued what I chose to waste time on I could retire.

Honestly I avoid talking about it irl as much as I avoid discussing films. People are way too cultish about personal tastes.

You and I won’t always agree- like I didn’t think west world season one was all that great.

but we’re Arguing over which Van Gogh is best.

As you probably know, IMO WWS1 is the greatest season of tv in history*.

At least I think we can all agree that the final season was WW was an embarrassing, depressing dumpster fire.

* Usually I am really suspicious of currentism but d-mned if of my favorite seasons of TV of all time > 90% of them have aired since 2005.

I think the best way around this is probably to talk about the positive aspects of shows and pass over the negative.

I can't do that; I'm immature and stupid. But better people than I should try that and also shun me.

I suspect that’s because so many have been on premium channels and premium channels have only been around (offering good shows) for a couple decades. Otherwise you had all of the money going to network TV or basic cable which had to play by different rules. Once writers and actors started to realize they didn’t need to be bound by decency norms set by Reagan and his disciples, it opened up the canvas to create real art instead of being bound by cave walls with shitty light.

I can but it depends on the context. I like knowing why people like things, especially if I don't. Gives me perspective and perhaps a way to see what is going on that I didn't understand. I try not to actively rip what people like beyond saying what I personally felt but that is "me" and their opinion is just as valid.

If I feel I can't do that I try and just shut up. Since I am rather blunt and quite honest it rubs people the wrong way so I just listen and move on. Sometimes I get baited though but not as much as I used to. It just isn't worth it.

Discussion is great...people who get off spitting on what other people enjoy just aren't worth the time anymore.

Agreed on all counts.

I love What We Do in the Shadows. Haven't just started watching out anything, just felt like sharing. Matt Berry has made me laugh a lot over the years.
