The big criticisms this week are pretty well worn territory:
  • We get yet another case of Jax either telling the club they have one more task before everything is done (which is about as tiresome as hearing Jax ask people to trust him when quite frankly no one should trust or believe a word he says at this point).
  • 90 minute episode where Juice's entire arc is: get arrested, sit in jail, get a cellmate who tells him not to worry. Yahoo.
  • A Charming local (a cop this time!) not causing trouble for the club because she "knows what the MC means to the town" or whatever. Why would anyone in Charming give two short and curlies about the club at this point?
  • All of the contrived nonsense that got Gemma to the cabin and to make her little confession to Thomas so she can have her "Gemma acts irrational to move the plot along" moment.

Now that said, I'm fully on board with the parts of the episode that are given good marks here:
  • The fact that we are making some progress, slowly but surely, to the end game.
  • That sweet little scene between Gemma and Chuckie.
  • Rat (and then Happy) admitting that he's scared of Gemma.
  • That ridiculous porn shoot that was going on in the background at Red Woody. L'chaim.
  • I'll go ahead and add a few more little moments I liked: Quinn vomiting, Tig messing with Unser, Chuckie on a moped, Nero remembering that he actually wanted out of this nonsense, the idea that Rat has a club rat wrapped around his finger, and basically all the little character moments that are making it fun for me to watch this whole thing play out, no matter how labyrinthine, contrived and stupid some of the moving pieces are.

The Juice thing is rather big, IMO. That's a major cog, given his offenses (or attempted offense of ratting out the club). Surprised he didn't meet the Reaper on the spot.

The Happy line: "We all are." was so friggin' classic. HAPPY of all people. :D

Eglee gives a crap for the same reason Jax (and the club) gives a crap. They all grew up together. There's still some smaller town mentality there.

The Gemma/Chuckie thing was good, too. At first, I hated Chuckie, but after a bit, he grew on me. He's a good guy. He just wants to be part of something and be everyone's friend.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Got to SOA tonight and other than the vignettes that you both enjoyed (I did too - very much), thought it was a blah, bad even, episode.

Hate to say it, but Sutter seems to be out of ideas. I'd be good if next week was the finale and just wrap this all up.

The completely and transparently contrived tension regarding Gemma. She can't call Jax? When Jax finds out she's freaked, he can't call her? It was such an obvious setup.

And then there was yet another of these...

We need you to do something for us. What's that? There's a bad guy hassling you that we need to deal with first? Okay, we'll go rough him up which will end in us killing him.

Getting really sick of Jax going on and on at the table about his family and everyone sticking with him and how he loves you man. It has completely lost it's impact as that same scene has played out about 10 times now.

And if I have to hear another bad song by Sagal...

I don't mind her stuff, for the most part. I actually liked tonight's. My top three for SOA songs (link to the show is key in all of them):

Forever Young
House Of The Rising Sun (Redwood version)
(Sitting On The) Dock Of The Bay (note: IIRC, Tig just sings a snippet of it as part of the actual show)

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

I won't spoil anything since I know some people here aren't caught up, but Manhattan had a very strong end to its' season, including a couple big twists in the final episode. It was a very strong first season. Like I speculated it would earlier, it finally started to draw a little more critical attention towards the end of the season. I'm glad it's coming back for a second season(and not just because I'd never know how it ends otherwise).

Also, can't believe I'm going to say this, but Selfie is actually surprisingly decent.

There's a shirt for sale that says "Tig Is My Moral Compass." So torn.

Ha! I thought the same thing had they not brought it back for a second season.

Still four episodes to go for my wife and I. Binge watching is such a great way to get immersed into these shows. The second episode really set the tone, and it left me shocked.

It's got a Breaking Bad vibe to it where you root for the "good guy" but slowly see them devolving into the "bad guy" persona.

Also, I was pleasently surprised at the writing; mathmatical language not dumbed down, and definetly a lot of, let's say, "historically accurate" language. Surely more colorful terms were bandied about in real life, but this show feels like it's trying (and succeeding) in being an accurate portrayal of 1940 Americana without scrubbing the history books clean.

In answer to the age-old question, yes, apparently there is a level TV will not sink to.

TLC has opted to cancel their hit Here Comes Honey Boo Boo in the wake of news that the show's matriarch, June Shannon, is in a relationship with a convicted child molester, TMZ reports. The network had already filmed an entire new season of episodes; none of them will air.

TMZ reported yesterday that Shannon had entered into a relationship with Mark McDaniel, who was convicted in 2004 and served 10 years in prison for forcing oral sex on an eight-year-old. McDaniel was released in March. The child McDaniel molested is a relative of Shannon's.

That that (*cringe*) show was even on TV just boils my blood. I hope someone nukes TLC from orbit. It's the absolute worst channel on television. The WORST. I'd rather be given the Clockwork Orange treatment with two screens of CNN and Fox News on than watch five minutes of that channel.

The Nation is secure.
