tUMD @ UNO: On Friday, Janurary 13th UMD will disappoint 16,000 Maverick Fans

Re: tUMD @ UNO: On Friday, Janurary 13th UMD will disappoint 16,000 Maverick Fans

Don't worry, Biddco eats a Husky :D
:D:D:D:D
Like I said earlier, better have a 3 goal lead going into the 3rd if you want to have a chance. Dear NHL scouts, please come to every game. Dear JT Brown, way to earn a max contract tonight, I'll miss you.
So true. Not only that but we scored four goals last night. Even after the empty netter the team just kept search for more goals. That is what is great about this team they just never stop. Happy to see us score on an empty netter. Not sure when the last time we did that was...because I am always afraid we will give up goal in those situations. Great to see us take the stress away.
Well, the listed attendance was 16,138. Do you think there were more than 138 Bulldog fans there?
A Mav twitter account told me he said there was 200 UMD fans there. So my thread title is a little bit off.

I am so happy that this thread title came true (close enough)! :D:D
Nothing but compliments for Duluth. So deep, very skilled. One of the best teams I've seen in 15 years of watching the sport, certainly.

I would be tremendously excited if I were a Duluth fan. And it's a message of hope for all of us fans of D-II and former D-II schools that big time championships are within our grasp, notwithstanding the Boston Colleges and Miamis flooding their rinks with liquid cash.

There is on Twitter tonight, however, a distinct sense that Duluth has not just extended its streak to 17, but that 18 is already in the bag. And certainly, again, you have to acknowledge that UMD is a stronger team at the moment than UNO. But my hope is that a fan base like UMD's, with the legendary sense of humor of tPenalty Box and its up and down years, will maintain just a fleck of where it came from as it enjoys this well-deserved prosperity. You have an opportunity to remain more civilized and gracious in your dominance than other fan bases I can readily name.

Most importantly, as the prophet said, all glory is fleeting.
I will always remember the years where we stuggled. I will never forget the year we didn't score a goal for 240 minutes of hockey...This time in UMD hockey is just fantastic to watch. I know our history at UMD and we don't have extended years like this. I am mentally preparing myself for some rough season ahead but enjoying the time now.

I have a cautious optimist on the season ahead. This team can do great things but must take it one weekend at a time. Team needs to focus on winning each game they play as they try gather points for a WCHA Crown. After last season I mentioned on then Twitter that a MacNaughton Cup would be number 1 on my list of sport wishes. This year could make it happen. But I am assuming nothing until it happens. You know what happens when you assume? You become a very disappointed fan. See last years UND team :)

I forgot to mention... Dan DeLisle scored on you guys :D:D

Also the best part about HD was seeing Blais' gold teeth shinning.

Re: tUMD @ UNO: On Friday, Janurary 13th UMD will disappoint 16,000 Maverick Fans

Random observations:

1. There were upwards of 2000 no-shows, easy, yet they announced a crowd than was bigger than the number the school gives as "capacity".

2. The number of casual fans at the game just made me crazy. Sitting around people that have no clue what is going on makes me nuts. The number of people that were in line to eat $1.00 hot dogs and drink dollar beers was insane. Lines were huge even when the game started. Our seats are on the periphery of the "core" fans in section 108 and while we have a fair number of other season ticket holders around us, they all aren't. Why do people bring 4 kids, all under the age of 6 or 7 to a game that don't watch an iota of it and are just disruptive?

3. I understand why Coach Blais has lost some faith in Faulkner. Me, too. I was frankly surprised he got the nod and then I wasn't after I thought about the circumstances of this game. I think it was a big game and Blais went with experience and probably found out, again, what he already knows. I bet Faulkner is not in the pipes tonight.

4. A fair number of Bulldog fans in evidence. A couple hundred at least. I'd expect to see more tonight. Big bunch of them in the suite directly behind our seats.

5. Both prior "sellout" nights had better atmosphere than this game did. In fairness, we won both those games. Either North Dakota home game last year did (where there were upwards of 1000 or better of their fans present both nights).

After an abysmal start, UNO righted the ship and played them pretty even the rest of the first period. I thought UNO outskated UMD pretty clearly in the 2nd. Third, period? Well, Coach Blais said in the paper that Zombo getting tossed was the key to the game in his opinion and forced him to go with three lines to UMD's four the rest of the way so he thought we were gassed in the 3rd. My wife and I sat there until well after the game was over and talked and noted that this was the worst home beating we've seen in a long time and how unusual it is for UNO to get outshot, especially to that degree, in a game over the past few seasons (under Blais). We also discussed how clearly lacking in senior leadership this team is and how evident that was in a game like this. We only have two seniors and both hardly play although Ensign seemed to get regular shifts last night, forced into more playing time, I would suppose, because of Sustr's injury. (Faulkner is a "senior" but he has a year of eligibility left).

Tonight's game will tell us a lot about this team. If UNO has realistic NCAA aspirations, then this is a must win game for them. The rest of our schedule I consider manageable. Bottom line, I don't think UMD has any more talent than we do, what they have is just more experienced and battle-tested. I've told my wife all year that if you backed Coach Blais into a corner on the topic, he'd tell you that next season is the one where has high hopes. Let us not forget that before last season began he thought we would contend for a title in "the next three years". We'll see.

Keep telling yourself that. Maybe you'll beat a good team sometime this year. You only swept one series this year. And you split with a winless team. How humiliating.

Your team has one line and that's it. That line is very good, no doubt, and UNO may well win tonight, but to make the claim that they're where the Bulldogs are at this point in time is asinine. If all those underclassmen stick around, Omaha will definitely be a legit Frozen Four team next year, but they won't find themselves playing in Florida this spring.

1. Time to send Faulkner to the glue factory.

2. You mean Archibald, not Zombo. Zombo served the penalty for Archibald. Zombo only pawn in game of hockey.

3. No offense, but you don't have the same amount of talent as tUMD. Doesn't mean that the team can't beat tUMD, but... just, no.

4. If you backed Dean Blais into a corner, he would murder you. Literally. Even if it was a figurative corner, he would literally murder you.

These are true statements. Also, I don't think Saturday's game "will tell us a great deal about UNO." We know, empirically, that UNO's a middle-four team in the WCHA playing like a middle-four team in the WCHA. They will win big games from time to time and be a tough out in the playoffs. They might win tonight. They're fun to watch. They're fun to be a fan of. If UNO loses 6-2 again, all of those things (well, except "might win tonight") will still be true.

Maverick fans - is your B2 broadcast a real TV broadcast or your jumbotron with radio announcer, or single camera, or something else?

Re: tUMD @ UNO: On Friday, Janurary 13th UMD will disappoint 16,000 Maverick Fans

Apparently, there seems to be some difficulty reading what I posted above.

Where did I say "that they're where the Bulldogs are at this point in time"?

I went out of my way to say that we weren't, even.

I made a comment about the respective talents levels and that talent level's amount of expertise (read: experience) that these two teams have. I have my own doubts about whether we can make a run at an NCAA bid, this season. In fact, my guess, is, going with my gut, not. We don't have the experience to get it done, I don't think. If we do, I think the team is for sure destined for great, great things in the next couple years, though. Coach Blais himself is the wild card in all this.

That said, if we are legitimately a Frozen Four candidate next season then you certainly have to agree that there is little, if any, overall talent disparity on these two teams. I mean, how are we going to be able to do that, if my statement about the respective talent levels doesn't have any truth to it? You, yourself, think we are Frozen Four material next season.

UMD has 7 seniors getting significant ice time this season. UNO has none. Faulkner doesn't count because he's not really a senior and Ensign and Smith hardly play (all three being Mike Kemp holdovers, I might add). UNO has only 3 juniors on it's roster (who all get significant ice time). One of those, Bryce Aneloski, IMHO, is the worst player on the team by quite a bit of anybody playing regularly. A big stiff who always seems to be out of position. Lets not even get started on Faulkner.

All (well, most, not all) of UNO's talent is Freshman and Sophomores. We had great recruiting classes these past two seasons. Hell, I even saw one source, pre-season, that said we had the best class in the country this season (a very highly subjective thing in college hockey). I certainly do not want to short shrift Terry Broadhurst here, either, a junior, who is one of if not THE best player on the team.

Blais would not have shot his mouth off about winning a title like he has if he didn't think he had the talent at-hand, or, coming, to do this. He's earned the benefit of the doubt with his prior resume' and has earned the right to make that statement if he wishes.

I'm not even saying UNO is going to win tonight. But, if this season is going anywhere, it starts tonight or I don't think its happening.

Hey Red Cows, whats your take on the Archibald blatent check from behind on our captain? Pretty classy move. If I were at the game tonight I would find a way to peel the #13 sticker off his helmet cause he missed the point of it all.

I thought it was a good thing for UMD. Blais basically said it help cost them the game. Losing a player for the game made them shuffle their lines. It made them have to use guys more often, which made them more tired in the 3rd. Luckily for us Connolly is one tough player and stayed in the game. He hasn't missed a game yet!

First place Bulldogs! First place Bulldogs! Another great offensive performance. What a great system and players the past couple of years!

Seriously, we know Plante is good, but man are you laying the undertones for a classic duluth "it's all local" with this post. Good god you're laying it on thick man. I'm not quite sure why.

Re: tUMD @ UNO: On Friday, Janurary 13th UMD will disappoint 16,000 Maverick Fans

Why do people bring 4 kids, all under the age of 6 or 7 to a game that don't watch an iota of it and are just disruptive?

Wow, are you kidding me? This is how you get kids into hockey, by bringing them. So I should leave my 2 year old twins at home, who haven't missed a dogs game since birth, 3 weeks old for their 1st? Even though we drive 2 hours every weekend to watch them? Or the other couple that sits with us with 2 kids, 4 and 18 months? They shouldn't be allowed to come either because they don't watch the ENTIRE game. You must not have kids.

Re: tUMD @ UNO: On Friday, Janurary 13th UMD will disappoint 16,000 Maverick Fans

Red Cows-

Sucks when you're dealing with fans who aren't paying attention, but be glad they paid for tix and all those people inline are pumping money into your program.

What bugs me about your fans is not knowing hockey and being obnoxious. We had a fan behind us at one game yelling "hand pass!" after our player near the goal chucked the puck hard behind our net and it was then scooped up by a UNO guy. And both series we were directly behind one goal and there were the same couple of fans IN THEIR 40s who would pound on the glass at the stupidest times, like after an icing.

The reason I was reminded of them was how your moronic fans reacted when Archibald drilled Connolly's head... They all lept to their feet, some pounded on the glass, and one was shown clearly pointing to Connolly on the ground and yelling AT him. Good crowds know that's nothing to cheer and in some you may have even seen some people grabbing their heads knowing down two already they are gonna have to kill off 5.

UNO gets a deserved win, congrats, UMD should still be #1 though.

17 unbeaten! Awesome streak. And Jack's point streak is still alive! I laughed so hard when they started booing him and he immediately scored.

I laughed harder when he got booed after the game that we won.

Re: tUMD @ UNO: On Friday, Janurary 13th UMD will disappoint 16,000 Maverick Fans

Anyone else notice that all 8 goals in Friday night's game were scored with a single assist? Is that some kind of record?
