While it's always nice to see the Gophers lose, every time I flipped over to watch this game between commercial breaks, there was a Bulldog player acting like they got shot by a Gopher. I think every fan base knows how much of a diving queen Austin Farley is but I didn't realize a good amount of other UMD players like to participate in such theatrics.
Congrats UMD, you guys made Kyle Rau look like Mother Teresa.
While it's always nice to see the Gophers lose, every time I flipped over to watch this game between commercial breaks, there was a Bulldog player acting like they got shot by a Gopher. Better effort by the Gophers tonight, but like last night the Gophers had another offensive meltdown and a hot UMD team took advantage and kicked ***. Kasimir Kaskisuo - the Finnish wonder, was very good in net, UMD forwards shelled Wilcox and their D blocked a ton of shots for a well deserved W and weekend sweep.
It's nearly impossible in college hockey to get a win when you take unnecessary penalties, can't get pucks on net, 3/5 GA on the weekend are PP Gs, and your forwards have only 1 G in the last 8 periods of hockey. I'd expect Lucia to make some immediate line adjustments to break out of this scoring slump. Time for this team to find some identity.

While I feel the same way, my initial thoughts were that I'd prefer to not have the guys sitting around a long time after this very tough sweep. But ya know...that may be a good thing also. If they were to get back to their winning ways too soon...they may not soak in the significance of it. An off week to punish some underagers may be the additional frustration they need.

Didn't see that coming. UMD played a great weekend of hockey and overcame a furious gopher effort in the 2nd and 3rd periods last night. Kaskisuo is the real deal, and he makes a huge difference for this team. It's amazing what good goaltending can do for a team's winning percentage. Plus he seems to getting better and better. He allowed his first even strength goal in 240 plus minutes and his first goal in a 149 minutes of hockey.
The arena was packed and it was as loud as I have heard it in a long time. I couldn't hear the band playing when UMD scored...
Best of luck the rest of the Gophs....help our PWR....
(oh and may we not play each other at the NSCC so we don't have a chance of losing this comparison)

Wilcox deserved better this weekend. Especially on night two, he played unreal after those first two goals on Saturday. Kask played well for UMD but he was just in the way on a few of those saves too. Not taking anything away from him, but he wasn't always seeing the puck, just making saves by being in the right spot.
I was already under this impression after the NSCC last year, but I am losing more and more respect for UMD every time the Gophers play them and I can only assume they do this when they aren't playing the Gophers even though I don't get to watch much of their non Gopher games. Seriously, a whioux fan called your team out. Sorry to steal your wording, Brent, but that is ridiculously telling to me. How many times can you lay on the ice like you just got shot? Doesn't that get old? I'd rather win straight up than lay on the ice like a little girl every time someone from the other team got close to me, but I guess that's just me.
UMD fans are quickly getting to a Jan level for me as well. 50+ year old woman taunting us and a probably 40-something dude grabbing his crotch and telling me to "suck it"? Grow up. There was a few years ago where I deserved everything that came to me as an opposing fan, but we literally were minding our own business the whole game. We cheered about the good thing(s) that happened for the Gophers and we disagreed with the little girls laying on the ice and a couple goofy calls, but never got in any faces of fans or anything like that. UMD fans have always played the "we don't want you" game when Gopher fans cheered for them but I always had a little soft spot in my heart anyway. I know UMD fans still won't care but I always thought this used to be a fun rivalry, now it' seems like UMD fans are getting a little too big for the britches.
