Re: Trump First Term I: I for One Welcome Our New Trumpy Overlord

An interesting ruling in Wisconsin that could change the contours of future elections considerably, especially 2020:

To be honest, I've never really understood the arguments for gerrymandering. It seems like an independent redistricting commission along the lines of what happens in Arizona and California would be much closer to ideal. Why you would allow politicians to draw lines to ensure their own elections has never made much sense. There are a number of mathematical models out there (Sam Wang has one) that would almost eliminate the need for human input into this.

Until the courts are stacked.

Interesting article in today's WaPo. (google Trump economy election Washington Post to bypass the paywall) The 1% went for Hillary - big. The rest went for tD. There's a divide, and it's economic, not political.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...p-top-table-main_economy-1125a:homepage/story

The divide between parties isn't economic...its educational and racial - the two most extreme dimensions.

Per 538, Hillary was up an average of +26% over Trump in the 50 most educated counties (vs. +17% for Obama vs. Romney). And she was down -31% to Trump in the 50 least educated counties (vs. -19% for Obama vs. Romney).

Hillary won 37% of the white vote to Trump's 58%. Hillary won Hispanics by +36% over Trump and Blacks by +80%.

This is not healthy or productive

It's well beyond time to move on and focus on 2018.

I posted this in the Crazy Conspiracy thread a couple weeks ago. I'm still of the belief that there's more than likely nothing to it and it's just some demographic coincidence based on the available evidence. But, when you combine multiple reports before the election on the vulnerability of archaic voting machines in these places, confirmed reports that Russian hackers tried to influence the election, and some peculiar voting patterns, that kind of seems like the type of thing you'd want to be 100% sure on, you know?

"The African-American community liked me. They liked what I was saying" --Trump's NYT interview yesterday.

Haley is fine as UN ambassador. There are much more worthy battles to pick.

I agree, but does she have any experience remotely pertaining to Foreign Policy? The contrast between Her and Powers/Rice is rather striking.

how is a woman supposed to get experience then?!?!!! :( take your misogynist leaning elsewhere, please!!!

She should have taken one of those resume-builder fluff jobs like Ambassador to Nauru or Secretary of State.

those kinda jobs are for pay-for-play campaign contributors

We had Kirkpatrick and Bolton in that job. Haley is Metternich compared to those two jackwagons.

Re: Trump First Term I: I for One Welcome Our New Trumpy Overlord

Here's why I don't buy it. Unless they all use the same manufacturer, there are far too many people who would have to be in on it. Someone would talk.

It really defies logic that the republicans would be able to pull it off in three states on such a grand scale. They couldn't even rig it to prevent Trump from happening.

Time and effort is far better spent focusing on 2018.

Well it isnt the Clinton Campaign doing it and the DNC doesnt seem interested. If some computer nerds want to run models and such that is their time to waste. :D Probably will take away from their Reddit time or Game of Thrones Fan Fiction ;)

Re: Trump First Term I: I for One Welcome Our New Trumpy Overlord

Current list of policies Trump advocated during the campaign that he's now walked back:

Hillary for Prison
Global Warming is a Hoax
Repeal Obamacare
Drain the Swamp
Make Mexico Pay for It
Rip Up the Iran Nuclear Deal
and now...

Torture, Torture, Torture!

next up: Protecting Medicare

LOL. Suckers.

That's awesome.
Maybe with all the private contributions they won't need public monies. That would take away a GOP talisman to wave about.

They will pass some stupid law that restricts what they can use the private funds for cause they are so into staying out of other people's business ;)

Unconfirmed rumors are that he's also considering Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) for an undisclosed post. Kepler's favorite!

They're probably just rumors, but I got a chuckle when seeing the name listed.
