TRP: More metal than your mother

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

Oh no, I have. I played soccer. During our conditioning practices at the beginning of the year we'd be pushed hard. I know of it. I'm just talking now, my knees are in bad shape. Years of running, playing keeper, and playing catcher.

no, trust me, I'm not lying. I truly enjoy the sport of running. It's fun. I like the feeling of accomplishment I get from it. The health benefits from it are just a side effect.

What gives you a greater sense of accomplishment? Running or punching girls?

Similar to my job. The job itself (the processes, responsibility I have, etc) I like. The physical activity is a side "benefit" as it keeps me in shape.

And yet due to the smoking, it won't be all that long 'til you will have difficulty climbing stairs without wheezing because of the reduced lung capacity. :p

I'd walk right over and smack you, but I'd be out of breath.

Kidding. It takes a lot for me to be out of breath. It's not like I smoke like TAJ.

You know, I really don't get the unnatural hatred of Kid Rock from people (especially those from MI). I understand if you don't like the rap/rock combo.

However, here's a guy who actually plays a few instruments, writes his own songs (AFAIK), and works at it, because he knows he's lucky to be where he's at.

The songs aren't Mozart or whatever, but he appeals to the average Joe. You hear some of his lyrics, and you can probably identify some part of your life with his lyrics. The only exception is maybe "Only God Knows Why" because it's really cheesy, but even then, it's like an homage to the 80s power ballad, which many a person loves.

And on the opposite spectrum, people eat up Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, etc etc.

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

Admittedly, I've never been a big rap fan, but personally I just don't find Kid Rock to be all that exciting or original of a songwriter.

That said, he's made himself and his brand of music popular, and I can't deny that.

He comes off as white trash, and his rap/rock combo is mediocre. If you're gonna opt for that genre, Linkin Park makes more sense.

There's always some larger-than-life personality out there with that type of music scoring commercial success. Typically, they're relevant for 5 years or so and then disappear; I think it's some sort of competition to become the next Madonna, since she's getting up there in years.

And I agree he's not original. I disagree on the exciting. I was "converted" so to speak when he opened for Metallica a few years ago here. He busted his arse to put on a show, etc etc.

I dunno. You hear Dylan's "Tangled Up In Blue" where he fits a million words into a space where 5 words fit, but it works. You hear Seger say stuff like "I used her she used me But neither one cared" (Night Moves) which sounds totally forced, but I digress.

It's "common man" category of lyrics, and it works.

Note: Kid can never touch Seger or Dylan, those are only examples relating to what I'm talking about. ;)

Bakunin: maybe a better phrasing of Kid Rock is "guilty pleasure" Yeah, I know you'll twist that one.... but I'm just sayin.

You only liked him because he had strippers dancing during his performance. :p

And there's a label for bands that bust their *** performing unoriginal material: they're called cover bands.

Blah blah blah. I have to admit I was wrong, and that boy has talent. You could see the "Crap, I'm suddenly a million dollar man, I better earn that sh*." Very few can fake that, and he's not smart enought to fake it. ;)

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

If you mean by "talent" that he has the ability to create something that appeals to a bunch of drunk idiots, then ok sure he has talent. :p

In that same vein, Joe Francis has talent since he created the girls gone wild franchise. Hey, somebody had to put 2+2 together and start filming the slutty chicks at bars and such during spring break and sell access to that to the masses.

Well, I'll say Joe is a marketing genius. How many of us instantly said "*, why didn't I think of that?!" :p

As far as pop/rock stars go, Kid Rock is far from crappy music, if you are a fan of his general style that is copied/that he has copied.
