Re: TRP: I'm Taking My Talents To Hartford: Remember The Whale!

So your point is no longer that writing checks is just as fast. You've conceded the point that it isn't. Good. Now your point is that when you do all but one step beforehand, you're sometimes faster than people who pay with a card and do no steps beforehand. That's like saying you get your pizza faster than people who order at the restaurant because you called 15 minutes ahead. As if it is some sort of accomplishment.

You love twisting arguments more than MNS likes twisting Bro Gin's dick.

My argument always has been that I'm just as fast as the avg person with a card, since for every person who has the card out ready to pay, there's another one who spends 5 minutes farting around to get said card (or is a slow hippie who takes his time folding the receipt up, which you mentioned not too long ago).

And no, I don't have a bunch of signed checks in my wallet. I fill out the check while in line. Duh.

Invalid. How many times do I have to say this? You aren't allowed to use my own words against me.

I don't follow your rules. :p

Well, off to hang out with con1977 and have some German brew/food. Yeah, I know: typical WI fare. Oh well, at least I'm not violating any roadkill or becoming a WI fan. It's still hell here.

Don't forget your checkbook.

Re: TRP: I'm Taking My Talents To Hartford: Remember The Whale!

Checks are for gift cards and speeding tickets.
Both can be paid online, so no need for checks.

Real estate/related transactions still require checks, sadly; I had to pay for an appraisal with a check a few weeks ago (and closing on loans when the closing cost is > $1000 requires a cashier's check).

Sorry, by gift card I meant an actual card for an event such as a wedding, with a check in it. Good call on the online payment for moving violations though.

The system for paying tickets is comical, though - IIRC, you have to pay the ticket in 21 days, yet you spend something like 14 days waiting for the *'ing thing to show up in the system. Pretty clever of them to rig it that way. :p

And why would anyone give a card with a check in it at a wedding? Why not an envelope stuffed with untraceable cash?

Re: TRP: I'm Taking My Talents To Hartford: Remember The Whale!

You don't get to say you do half of the steps beforehand and then compare yourself to some who does none of the steps beforehand. That's not the way it works. You lose. AGAIN.

This really shouldn't be that tough for you, but obviously it is. Let's try breaking this down once again.

Let's say there are two people in two separate lines, one paying with a card and one paying with a check. Let's assign them completely random names too. Let's call the one paying with a card Hot MILF. And let's call the one paying with a check Bald Dumbass.

Both Hot MILF and Bald Dumbass twiddle their thumbs and wait to do anything until after everything has been rung up. They both search through their purse for their card/checkbook and annoy the people behind them with their general slowness.

Once they get the card/checkbook out, who will get done paying first? Hot MILF. Because from start to finish, paying with a card is faster than paying with a check.

But let's give Bald Dumbass the benefit of the doubt and say he can write a check at super sonic speeds. It doesn't matter. Why you ask? One reason: Why the hell does Bald Dumbass have a purse?

this made me laugh, a lot. Nice job, Dirty. :D

Actually most people have their card swiped and signed before the transaction is finished being rung up...so they're still ahead of you.

This. MNS just owned you, Brent. Now look sad and say BOX.

Checks are for paying rent and... umm... that's about it. That and giving large amounts of money (e.g., this is for my share of Frozen Four tickets and hotel room that you prepaid) to friends who don't have Paypal.

Re: TRP: I'm Taking My Talents To Hartford: Remember The Whale!

I use checks for one student loan because I have to write the check out to MTU and mail it to some accounting services company and apparently this is too complicated for my banks billpay to comprehend.

Re: TRP: I'm Taking My Talents To Hartford: Remember The Whale!

Going back to the catfight you ladies were having last night... I don't know the 100% accuracy, but I did find a list:

1985 - Year Introduced

Butterfinger Bar
Heath Bar
Reese's Pieces Candy
M&M's Candy
Chocolate Sandwich Cookies (Oreo, Droxie)
Peanut Butter Crunch
German Chocolate
Banana Split
Chocolate Chip
Hawaiian
Tropical
Turtlettes (Pecan Cluster)
Macaroon
Chocolate Covered Cherries
Banana Pudding
Standard Toppings (Chocolate, Hot Fudge, Strawberry, Butterscotch or Pineapple)

Ahem. Straight cash, homey. Only check I've written is to get said cash.

Let's review Brenthoven's Check Writing Situations:

1. 80% Rent
2. 10% grocery
3. 5% gas fill ups
4. 5% get cash/other

Most of that (prob about 90%) affects no one, as there is rarely a line (even one person in the same checkout lanes) when I shop or bank.

Here's my middle finger, take that to the bank. And cash that check. :p

You write a check to buy gas? I didn't think gas stations even took checks!
