TRP: Holidays and New Years Resolutions

Re: TRP: Holidays and New Years Resolutions

Finished my "binge and Pearl Jam" - all 9 studio albums in their entirety. Just finished Riot Act, Pearl Jam, and Backspacer. Riot Act and the self-titled album keep getting better (except "Parachutes" - it just does nothing for me). Backspacer is a bit of a letdown after the previous two albums. I'm trying to give it a chance, but I think it's going to end up in the Binaural/Yield grouping.

I do listen to country when I drive, just because it's comforting (childhood memories and the like) and it keeps me calmer.
Heh. My childhood music memories include bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, from my parents, and Queensryche and Metallica from my brother and sister. It's what happens when your parents have good musical taste (my mom loves Pearl Jam, and some Nirvana), and siblings old enough to be into rock. :D

Re: TRP: Holidays and New Years Resolutions

Until the 6th grade, I was all about Sting, Celine Dion, Boyz II Men, etc (which is weird since my dad is into Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Hendrix, etc., and Mom is into the Who, the Stones, etc). Then I met my best friend (who had an older brother), and she was nice enough to introduce me to Tool, Nirvana, Bush, Garbage, and Live (and later on, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, etc.)

Lucky. I was the oldest, and the first to show any inkling to break out. Now, I'm the classic rock/country listener, my little sister is in to most things pop, and my brother is the angry white boy rocker of the family.

Obviously since my parents are way cool, I have given them some burned cds over the years, and a couple of the more suprising "likes" my mom has (dad is steadfast in his ways):

AC/DC
GNR
Apocalyptica (and the associated songs of Metallica)
Andrew WK
Prince (even songs like "Erotic City")
Pink Floyd (although they BOTH loved the movie "The Wall," thought it was brilliant)
Weird Al
Weezer
Kid Rock

Re: TRP: Holidays and New Years Resolutions

And I'm sorry about your situation. I can sympathize. My parents only listened to (what we call now) oldies and country when growing up. A friend then intro'd me to this "crazy new band" called Quiet Riot. Then it was alllllll over. :D

Hold on now...I get crapped on for "Last Kiss," but this guy breaks out a "Cum on Feel the Noise" reference and he gets away with it? Shenanigans! ;)

My parents enjoy this too. And, how I knew I'd fit in with Flashy's family: one of the first times I was there visiting with him, from downstairs I heard a Wierd Al song being BLARED in the stereo.

One pair of nerds begot another nerd. :p

Re: TRP: Holidays and New Years Resolutions

I feel like a bad person, but I've, in all honesty, never heard the original Last Kiss. :o

I think I'll go and listen to it now...

I was the opposite - I'd never heard the PJ cover. A typical middle school conversation would go like this:

So & So: "So I was listening to 'Last Kiss' the other day..."

Me: "Really? J. Frank Wilson & The Cavaliers?"

So & So 2: "Uhhhh, who? No, 'Last Kiss'...you know, Pearl Jam."

Me: "Who's Pearl Jam?"

*culturally awkward silence*

Re: TRP: Holidays and New Years Resolutions

Don't ever speak ill of Quiet Riot. Ever.

:D
So much truth. And Twisted Sister, also. Even I said (at the time): What. The. *. Is. THAT? They RULE! (Well, they still rule, but that was a bizarre "discovery" at the time.

FTW. I remember my parents buying me the "In 3-D" LP (!!!) for Christmas when I was a young lad.

Re: TRP: Holidays and New Years Resolutions

Oh I'm not. I'm still hunting for my own little geek-ess to hang out with. :)

Circle the trailer parks. Not only are they into rasslin', but they also fit your age demographic. And like older men. :p :D

Guess who introduced me to Blink 182, Stroke 9, 3 Doors Down, Linkin Park, and the likes.. Yup, that's right. My dad. Then again, he's only 38.

Re: TRP: Holidays and New Years Resolutions
