Re: TRP: Booty Traps Edition

I thought giving you things and not paying you was Dorkisak's role? Or do I have that backwards? :eek: ;)

Dorkisak was at the DT so there has to be some other stuff going on then.

On a downside stopped by a party at MEg's old house I couldnt keep a straight face in the house especially the hot tub, god I miss drinking there

They try to help me out because the actual paid intern in the office is more or less worthless and I'm doing half the stuff she used to do or is supposed to be doing.

Half the knobs in the office sounds like a lot of polishing.

So for you hosses and hossettes in the Boston area, my awesome cover band is playing the Beachcomber in Quincy next Friday night. Not a full night, we're only doing a 50 minute set.

We're also playing Copperfields by Fenway on 9/26, I think that's a full night.

The ****ing union people are back again today. I'm about ready to start throwing things out the window at them.

Re: TRP: Booty Traps Edition

What another oh so fun day. I wake up, my migraine is still hanging around. Not good. So I finally decide to head back to the doctor. Luckily, I got the same one as I had Wed. He asks if I want the CT Scan (he asked on Wed, but didn't recommend it at all, felt there wasn't a real need). I say yes, oh hell yes. Better safe than sorry at this point.

While we're waiting for that, he said he's gonna get me something to ease the pain, and that it was "an injectable ibuprofen, only a lot stronger." Ok. So the nurse comes in, and I rest my arm on the table. She kinda chuckles, and says, "That's not where it goes." :eek: :mad: :mad: So I stand up, and get the shot in my backside. This does not make me happy, as I don't like needles in the first place. But yeah, that stuff worked. Took 20 minutes to set in, and boom, no more pain. 8-hour-effectiveness window, too.

Anyway, I get the CT Scan, wait a couple minutes, and the results came back:

Extensive sinus infection, which most likely caused the migraine variation, and it's pretty much on my whole right side of my face. Well, the good part is my brain is fine (insert joke here), but the bad part is I get to take some pills that look like they are for large farm animals. Augmentin or something like that. "Antibiotics on steroids" is how the doc described it.

Other related good news: I can have caffeine again!!!! :D

And sorry for being late on this, but in case you haven't noticed....

IT'S FRIDAY!!!

"Augmentin" huh? I think you all know what that sounds like it's for, and it's not sinus infections. Look, if you're using male enhancement pills, you can tell us, Rube. We won't laugh... much.

Well, after looking it up, there's no "4-hour-hard-wang" effect, so it's obviously not an enhancement. Although I'm kinda worried about the other side effects that could happen:

diarrhea that is watery or has blood in it;

pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine, fever, confusion or weakness;

easy bruising or bleeding;

skin rash, bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness;

agitation, confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior, seizure (convulsions);

nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or

fever, sore throat, and headache with severe blistering, peeling, or red skin rash.

Although I already suffer from the bolded parts. :p

Augmentin is pretty standard stuff. Some doctors seem to think it gets over prescribed as it's a wide spectrum antibiotic. They worry that the wide use of it will render it ineffective as so many people are prescribed the drug and so many people fail to take their medicines for the full course as they're directed.

I just had that stuff for a sinus infection back in January. It did the trick.

Well, good to hear it works. I hate pills of any kind in the first place, so I am never thrilled to get prescribed something I haven't heard of (which is a lot, I admit). I'm still amazed at the size of these pills, though. Holy crap they are big: about an inch long and quarter-inch thick.

If he'd seen a doctor earlier, they might have gone the nasal swab / culturing route. They could give broad-spec antibiotics initially and then upon identifying what organism(s) is/are up there 24 hours later, could adjust the prescription to something targeted at what's actually there.

As for antibiotics, they are over-used. This is why so many organisms are developing resistances to them. They're also not ideal given the fact they kill good and bad organisms alike - which leaves you susceptible to opportunistic pathogens.

Well, if I knew what I had was more than a standard migraine, I might have gone to a doctor earlier. I'm not fond of doctors, Mr. Bakunin. And aren't you supposed to be on a light rail right about now?

Oh good lord. I would never carry anything from LL Bean. This is my bag of choice (in black).

So you DO own a purse.
