TRP: Blizzards, Bacon, and Beer

Re: TRP: Blizzards, Bacon, and Beer

Well, got an interesting email. Good news and bad news, I guess.

My cousin, who's in the Navy, has a tour-ending date of July 2010. However, he recently received a two-year order to go to Bahrain (would be the second time, that we know of, that he's been there). We're thinking they're trying to rope him in to sign on for another tour (best case) or declare some sort of "emergency situation" so he has to serve out the Bahrain orders. Officially, he'll be on a ship that does minesweeps. I'm proud that he's serving our country, but now that he wants to move on in life, I really hope nothing stops that.

Some thoughts and prayers are asked for.

A little backstory, which adds to this a bit: he joined the Navy in June 2001, right out of high school. Basically just out of bootcamp when 9/11 happened, and he was shipped over very soon after that. Talk about "bad" timing.

Re: TRP: Blizzards, Bacon, and Beer

I now have a complete cold weather running gear set from Under Armour. Even so, when it's 0 degrees, it's still too cold out. :(

Oh, agreed.

around 10 degrees or so, if I bundle up, I do fine. I also own Drymax socks, which keep my feet ridiculously dry and warm. Invest in some. You won't regret it.

And you'll be back on it real soon. Don't you worry. ;)

I need to start building up my winter weather running arsenal. Though, I am having a hell of a time finding running tights anywhere.

Re: TRP: Blizzards, Bacon, and Beer

I'm a big fan of stabil-icers (as opposed to yaktrax), but they might be a little heavy for running.

let's start with your feet. I have Drymax socks, which I used on my triathlon. Literally slipped them on wet feet and tossed them in bike shoes. Were dry the entire ride/run. You got the Yaktrax which are good. I don't own them, but that's my own choice. As for running tights, I have a pair of Under Armour tights that I adore. 'Diva, check out these Pearl Izumi"]Pearl Izumi tights. I love Pearl Izumi for their cycling apparel and they are starting to venture into the running market. My base layers include a tighter Brooks long sleeve running shirt and over that I wear a loose short sleeve Nike Drifit shirt. Then on top of all that, I wear my Under Amour jacket. Quiz wears a running specific New Balance winter hat, but I wear my Sioux hockey toque and it works fine for me.

Hope that helps you out.

I do. This is technically high desert. Learn your geography boy. :p
According to the Köppen Climate Classification System Denver is in climatic zone BSk, which refers to a dry semiarid setting also known as steppe. This is a dry climate, but is not desert, which is classified in climate zone BW (dry arid or true desert). There is not any true desert in Colorado.

<-----Teaches weather and climate :D :p

Now back to something else that noone really cares about. ;) :D

Re: TRP: Blizzards, Bacon, and Beer

Fishnets? :)

So... are we putting you up the next few days or what?

Dur. Yeah, I'd appreciate a place to stay, but I'll probably only stay one night there (tomorrow night) unless Tech somehow gets to the championship game Wednesday. Thanks - looking for any Grain Belt? :)

Cool. We'll make sure to set up a place for you.

Got Grain Belt... wouldn't mind some NG, though, since you have to drive through there and all. :)

I'm ok with that. :D Any particular variety/quantity?

And drop me a Facebook message with your location if you could :) (EDIT: or respond to my message there)

either way, it's a lot more humid back in the motherland. It's dry and hot out here, which has made me soft. Although I laugh at the people that are like OMG I can't breathe! :D

Yes, it is more humid in the Red River Valley/Minnesota. :D
