Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

I want to move to Barcelona. Anyone want to move to Barcelona with me?

I hear they have good tacos there.

....wait, maybe that's Mexico? Well, maybe they have good tacos in Barcelona. Can anyone vouch for the taco quality there?

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

I keep seeing girls with bluebird tattoos. Usually two, one on each shoulder or two on the lower back. I have started asking them if they have 10,000 miles at sea. I have gotten nothing but utterly confused looks so far. Kind of fun.

That's because bluebirds aren't sparrows, which is the 5,000 miles at sea tradition. :)

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

Bluebirds mean the same thing. Also, I think you mean the swallow, not sparrow.

sparrows, swallows, either way, I won't buy into that tradition despite being at probably 20k miles sailed. Fack the birds.

To answer the reason though, they've probably got them for luck or some similar reason from what I'm reading. Silly women :)

It applies to all sailors that choose to do it, but I have only seen them on Navy guys so far. My grandfather had a few, he was in the merchant marine in WWII.

When you find one that does know what you're talking about, you should probably ask her out. ;)

Ya, I know the tradition, just get the birds mixed up. It's not too common by commercial sailors these days because you rack up so many miles so easily. It was tougher to get to back in the old days.

<--- graduating to sail on ships in a few weeks, well... tugboats in houston/mississippi river starting june 2nd.

Sweet. I have always considered saying eff it and joining the Navy, but it is getting a little late now.

Well, I won't/don't have any military obligations, but I love being on the water. It seems like life just slows down when out on a ship/boat, you aren't always in a rush to get things done and whatnot.

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

I just found out that my friend Raj, who lived across the street from me growing up and was my classmate from kindergarten through high school, passed away this past weekend. I don't even know how to react to this, but I suppose it puts things like sports in perspective. Far too young. :(

Yikes. Sorry, jmh. :(

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

I can't even imagine what his parents and his two brothers must be going through right now. And it just occurred to me that it's pretty much two years since the passing of another classmate who he was really close with, and I really hope there's no connection.

:( That's so sad. I'm so sorry.

1 (bottle) + 1 (glass) = 2 (much wine for me to drink on an empty stomach)
