Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

I didn't mean any political implications in that, I just heard it on the radio and thought it would be of interest.

I heard the same reports, it was claimed that he said if he went back, he'd be in trouble/killed; something along those lines.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

It's very difficult to shoot small surfaces on a moving target. That's a lot of math or trial and error going on there. The math wouldn't be readily available, and the trial & error method likely frowned upon by those in charge.

That is a really good point.

That is why, when I see this kind of thing all the time in TV and movies, and I think to myself, "Man I wish I were in charge of their training."

They have like two dozen guys (in the film version I mean) and they are all aiming at exactly the same thing! Why not: "okay, you ten aim at the windows, you five aim at the tires, and you five be opportunistic and hit what you can." Of course you can't do that by giving orders in real time, and so that's why you prepare for these things in advance! It can be as simple as having 1/4 of the group be A, B, C, D (they figure it out on the way to the scene) and then "A and B: do this. C: do this. etc."

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

um, seems to me that a tendency to the fanatical is the common thread, across all relgions and even among the secular creeds too. We could throw up plenty of counter-examples if you want to discuss elsewhere.

If this guy were smart, he'd surrender and take a plea bargain, and be out in twenty years, at which time he can become an assistant professor at Columbia, if you can figure out my oblique reference there.

I'm a confirmed Presbyterian. And am hugely embarrassed by the activities of radical Presbyterians. And where is this impulse to be a referee coming from, anyway? To deny Islamism is a huge problem is to p*ss on the graves of thousands of innocent victims.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

They are talking about how residents are being approached.

1. Police, open up.
2. Bullhorn.
3. Force.

I'd wait for option 2, frankly. Just to make sure.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

More vehicles storming the UMass-Dartmouth campus.

My opinion: something big is going down, and they are keeping it under wraps for now. NO info is coming out.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

I got a friend that works in Cambridge and was told she had to go into work. I'd be using a sick day in that situation.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Meathead's friend is being interviewed again, this time with his face being shown and name given since the cat was out of the bag.

Yah, if you think Al Quada is a problem, wait until you cross the radical Presbyterians!

A few years ago, UMass-Dartmouth got "screwed" by the NCAA out of hosting a Division III quarterfinal game because they filed the wrong request to host paperwork. They where forced to play on the road despite being a higher seed.

Maybe one of their hockey players finally blew a cork over that incident...

(Before everybody jumps all over me, I'm just trying to add a little levity.)

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

I wonder if this UMass-Dartmouth action is just a result of a lack of success in the search so far, so the police/FBI are thinking that the odds are he'd go to somewhere he's familiar with, and has access to. His college campus would be at the top of that list.

Given the info we know:

1. There found more IEDs, even today...
2. Familiar place
3. LARGE place with many hiding spots/advantageous spots for a standoff
4. Haven't completely searched it yet

It's a solid choice. I still think they found SOMEthing. Just dunno what.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Well, I guess the good thing is, if he's on the run, he shouldn't have access to bombs anymore, unless he's part of a bigger cell, which frankly is my biggest concern. If this is just the tip of the iceburg and there are more of these psychos ready to bomb more ****.....
