Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

BREAKING NEWS: FBI says bombing suspect may be driving a 4-door, green 1999 Honda Civic with Massachusetts plates 116GC7.

Fears are that he may have somehow slipped out of the city...

Or that could be the potential accomplice they were referring to earlier today.

Man, I just flashed on the hunt for Andrew Cunanan. He had killed a wealthy guy in Chicago and escaped in the man's car. Media began broadcasting descriptions of the car and next thing you know, Cunanan had murdered some poor dude to steal his pickup.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Well, McVeigh wasn't.

I just think that certain individuals are wired to be receptive to ideas that the rest of us would think are nuts or simply make no logical sense.

To your point, I believe that religion, or more precisely, religious fanaticism, can be an accelerant in a potentially volatile individual.

Your sample size may be a bit small. But it's certainly true that some people are receptive to notions the rest of us dismiss as totally wacky. Jim Jones tells 900 people to kill themselves ("revolutionary suicide") and they do. Who were those fools who killed themselves in the mansion in California? They were going to hitch a ride on a comet, or something? One of those idiots was the daughter of a federal judge, and she had been a nutcake her entire life.

But the inarguable fact is the world has been bedeviled by Islamist terrorists for years now. I don't think it does any good to minimize that obvious fact.

You ever watch a movie with a huge chase/shootout scene, and you want to shout out "SHOOT THE TIRES OUT!" Of course, the script won't let the good guys do that because it would make the huge chase/shootout scene not so huge anymore.

Well, since this whole thing "is just like a movie" it appears the good guys had their hands forced by the script...

How many bullets were fired during the exchange with the Mercedes and the two suspects? And not one officer thought to shoot the tires out? They fired enough bullets to fell one of the suspects. But not enough to allow the other suspect to "simply" drive the car away. SHOOT THE TIRES OUT!

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

I just can't get the image out of my mind: Doomed Martin Richard with a bomb within arm's reach as Hardword #2 strolls away. I want to shout at the boy to get the h*ll out of there. But it's too late.
For anyone foolish enough to want to see said image:

Seeing that picture, and moreso, reading that article has made me feel sick.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Here is a concise summary of the last series of events. This is surreal.
God****. I hate saying this is like straight out of a movie...but it is.
I wish you guys could have heard the whole thing play out last night over the scanner. I must have listened to that thing for nine hours straight last night. It was incredible. I know Old Pio was up with us pretty **** late and OP, Brent, and MNS can all vouch for the drama. It was so intense.

Exactly. Can anybody recall a real life chase involving gunfire and explosives? I can't.
No, I really can't. Like I said last night, this is playing out like Grand Theft Auto on five stars (video game). It's fantasy land come to life.

It's very difficult to shoot small surfaces on a moving target. That's a lot of math or trial and error going on there. The math wouldn't be readily available, and the trial & error method likely frowned upon by those in charge.

What leads you to assume they didn't try? You have to admit it's pretty easy to second guess those cops from the comfort of your home or office. They were engaged in a fire fight (including explosives) , at night, with the two most wanted suspects in the world, who had already killed one police officer.

You do what you are trained to do: aim for the largest area to create the desired result. Want a person down? Aim for the torso, for example.

And dx is right, it was intense. I ended up going to bed, after realizing it wasn't ending anytime soon. Work was slow enough today where I took the afternoon off, JUST so I could head back home and listen/watch this story.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

I wonder if the aunt and father's distrust of the FBI is a product of the old school tactics of the KGB? Remember, they probably grew up when it was still the Soviet Union.

Oh, I understand all that. Not to mention none of us has any idea what it's like to actually be in a situation like that.

But, it never stops me from shouting out, "SHOOT THE TIRES OUT!" :D

[And onto a separate joke, doesn't it disturb anyone that the Army shooting team doesn't win the NCAA championships every year?]

Did you make it to your 8:30?

I'm sad I missed it...but I was asleep. It was crazy waking up the Power Trip Morning show and literally the first thing I heard was that one of the suspects was dead.

That photo of the suspect #2 before the bomb blew up? Heartwrenching.

You wonder how much the FBI knew when they released those images yesterday. I bet a whole lot more than they went on about.
