Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Heard from multiple sources that the fugitive was a student at pre-med student at UMass-Dartmouth (They have a DIII team.)

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Didn't read back, but BOS police scanner is offline. No public allowed to listen.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

... Maybe "martial law" was more to protect people from getting blown up than as the first step in a totalitarian conspiracy? ...
Please don't use that term. It has not been used, and its use only gives credence to paranoid ramblings. People have been told to stay in place. That seems like common sense when there's a heavily armed suspect being pursued by lots of police and they don't want the public to get in the way. My daughter lives one town over from Cambridge. She went to a Dr's. appointment this morning and her husband shopped at Home Depot. Yeah, the story is dominating the news and a lot of folks are being inconvenienced, but there's nothing that even approaches "martial law".

He was poking fun at the tin foil hat crowd's paranoia. If you read back, it's clear.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

From the Wall St Journal:

A profile on the Russian social-networking site Vkontakte that appears to belong to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev includes a propaganda clip rallying jihadists to go to Syria to fight alongside rebels there, citing sayings from the Prophet Muhammad.

Such videos have become commonplace in the Arab world and have even been shown on extremist Sunni TV channels broadcasting from Saudi Arabia. Most Chechens are Sunni Muslims. The profile's authenticity couldn't be verified.

Seems like Islamist terror. The article says that nationalist Chechen terrorists (the ones carrying out terror attacks in Russia) would have no "reason" to attach US while radicalized Islamist Chechens would be different.

Understand that; that's the "paranoid ramblings" that I refer to. The post I was responding to made no reference to FD's posts. Not everyone is familiar with the history, and not everybody reads back.

And the uncle is claiming that if the suspect claims Islam, the suspect is lying and is a fraud.

This is so messed up.

Understood and concur, hence the quotes in the post to which you replied. I used the term in quotes to be sarcastic. Reports are that the brothers' apartment was full of explosives and partially-constructed bombs, and people are saying more IEDs have been found around town. "Don't go out until we can keep you safe" is just good advice in an extraordinary situation!

After all, we still don't know if the brothers were part of a wider team or not either.

and yeah, I've been a bit touchy. My daughter volunteered at the Marathon, and my brother works at MIT, and I was in Manhattan in Sept 2001. So this is not a time or place for whatever. At least we are spared FD08 for a week or so.

NBC News:
Pete Williams says as we learn more there might be others that were involved in planning the bombing and they might be out there.
Amtrak service from NYC to Boston is now shut down.

Be careful who you use as sources. Some morons are tweeting that the sit room at the White House is being evacuated. Think about it...

I hope the uncle doesn't need protection, but I also hope they err on the side of caution.

Frankly, I think the uncle would be filled with pride if he took 'em out, and died in the process. That's what I got from his interview.

If this guy gets out of Boston, which only seems possible if there is some kind of support cell in place, at this point, all hell is going to break loose. I'm worried that we haven't heard that there is a lead on where he actually is at this point, unless I'm missing something.

Well, if he is still using a car he will need gasoline and if he has help then there are bigger issues here than we had before. Right now what's going on is bordering on too much... Especially with the umass Dartmouth shutdown... To me that's just running scared.

I think right now this is a sacred kid... All kinds of things could happen but he'll freak out at some point... Adrenaline running and all that... The further from Boston he gets the further out of home turf he gets

Islamist terror has nothing to do with Islam.

Go on, I'd like to hear this.

Edit: seemed to me like the uncle was ****ed they picked up on Islam. Stronger adherents to Islam within the United States is a much more recent thing... 10-20 years. A lot of those who come here otherwise are Muslim nominally but mostly wanted to get away from the bull****.

Basically saying, if what they want to believe is core Islam then these ****ers are lost.

The uncle also said he still uses AOL, so, you know, he's maybe not the most up-to-date on everything going on around him.

They were interviewing two wrestlers that knew the guy on CNN. They requested anonymity, so they were only shot from the chest down, which was great, until the one meathead referred to the guy with him by name. Again, maybe not your best source.

Yeah, saw that. Oops.

And the longer this goes on.....the more worrisome I get.
