Re: Travel Part 3: Destination Unknown

Delta has a fare sale, supposedly. 48,000 miles round trip to many European cities. Sale ends tomorrow. Travel either in the fall, or next winter.

Re: Travel Part 3: Destination Unknown

Someone on here said avoid CDG like the plague. Can I ask why?

I mean it's big but I've been to worse airports. It connects to the RER and gets you in to Paris easily (assuming no train strikes). I hear Orly is smaller which might be one's cup of tea,

It’s just a layover I was looking at. Was curious if it was notorious for missed flights or something like that which I would be looking to avoid.

I flew into and out of CDG once, back in 2000. It was great for getting onto my flight quickly - showing up late to the airport, but getting my bags checked and boarding myself in a very short time and making it onto my flight before scheduled takeoff. It was disappointed to be stuck on the tarmac for almost 3 hours after that due to unexplained reasons.

For the excursion to Thailand we so far have a planned river raft trip, snorkeling, a train ride to the mountains and some charity work with a local orphanage. Can't wait!

Wow. I just booked a 12 day 2 country European trip.

I feel like you might be getting the more enjoyable trip. ;)

Did you end up booking Portugal? I’ve only been there once (wouldn’t have been much help for your question last week) and it was beautiful. We stayed in Lisbon but I would love to go back eventually.

Yup. Will spend a few days in Lisbon with a friend and then want to head to the algarve for 3 days

Went there a few months ago, adventured to the stunning Sanctuary of Truth - wooden cathedral type structure covered with statuettes. Indiana Jones here scored a trophy from its facade (ok...bought).

Re: Travel Part 3: Destination Unknown

Going thru CDG is a lot like Heath Row. Big but otherwise ok. I avoid London because the taxes are so high. Madrid and Lisbon or Dublin are much better and even Amsterdam is ok.. CDG has changed a lot in the last 5 years or so. All for the better. Clearing customs is the hardest part. Now if I was avoiding an airport, Atlanta would be the top of my list.
