That's a horrible, terribly boring drive up I-71. Like, I-90 across NYS boring.

There's also the national USAF museum in Dayton. It's been many years since I went as a kid, but it is typically very well-reviewed. Only an hour drive, depending where around Cincinnati you are.
2nd the USAF museum - far more planes than the Smithsonian, even including the Udvar-Hazy annex. Three massive halls, and they're building a 4th. It covers all of military aviation history, literally from the Wright Brothers' hand-built wooden wind tunnel up to today. A must for anyone remotely interested in aviation.

I didn't find I-71 through Ohio all that boring in either direction. I-70 through Kansas, on the other hand... YAWN!

Re: Travel Part 2 - Where ya headed?

Looking to go to Alaska before school lets out and they have pretty good deals in early May, does anyone know what the weather will be like? I have no issues with it being cooler but will there be a lot more rain at that time of year than in late May/June or September. I also remember someone saying that certain months were horrible for mosquito's but I think that was June and July.

Re: Travel Part 2 - Where ya headed?

Have people to visit in St Thomas and St Croix. Anyone do this in one trip? Any suggestions on the best options for travel?

Upper 40s/lower 50s, partly to mostly cloudy. Any rain will be more of a drizzly Seattle type rain, not a downpour.

Heading to Seoul in late August, visiting younger son, and the a week in Kauai visiting my new SIL. Life is good.

Depends on what part you're going to.

I have a friend who was relocated to St Croix. Someone else is on St Thomas. It looks like I have to take a puddle hopper and a ferry.

Yeah... I don't believe there is a ferry to St. Croix. Seems like you discovered that already.

The inter-island airline could be... um... interesting. ;)

If the engine quits, let the chickens out of their cages quickly!

When I was a kid we flew from some small airport in England to the Netherlands. There were chicks hatching under our feet. We kids thought it was way cool. Mum les was less than pleased

Re: Travel Part 2 - Where ya headed?

FYI. Spirit has a deal (I think its today only). 96% off flights to Florida. Got my $35+$35 tick to the gulf coast.

Re: Travel Part 2 - Where ya headed?

Spirit is alright, IF you know what you're getting into. You don't get to pick a seat without paying. You will pay for any luggage larger than a small backpack. If you must have them, you'll bring your own beverage and snack. You'll get 28 inches of pitch, and you'll like it.

But yes, they suck. By the time you add up the fees, you often may as well have flown a legacy carrier or SWA.

The air is free? Who knew?

When I was a freshman in h.s. (1983 - screw you all) our church group took a ski trip to Colorado (which was repeated each year until I graduated). I recall my first mid-mountain chalet stop at Vail. In line at a cafe when asked to pay $7 for a blueberry muffin I said, "How much for the napkins and straws?". The cashier looked at me like I was from Wisconsin and we had a good laugh as I emptied my velcro wallet.
