Transition into the WCHA: What should BSU, UNO expect?

Re: Transition into the WCHA: What should BSU, UNO expect?

And the Omaha metro has upwards of 800,000 people. Denver and Minnesota are the only two other schools in larger areas. Just wait until UND and UM come into town and there's 15,000 people in the Qwest Center.

..and it's not like the Kohl Center in Madison doesn't sell out, either.

The difference is, Minn/Wisco/UND regularly play in front of home and hostile crowds of that size. The Qwest is a nice arena and the fans are loud- but its not like they show up that way for every team that comes in. UNO better learn how to win on the road, especially in the WCHA. It killed them last season in a presumably easier, less intimidating league.

They don't show up that way ever, at least not yet. I went back about 5 seasons and found only one game that approached 15,000, and that was 13,000 against Ohio St. (they drew about 7500 the next night, iirc).

I hope the WCHA schools have that effect on attendance at UNO, but I suspect MN, Wis, UND, DU etc..., will be playing in front of crowds no larger than they are used to on the road, and in some instances, significantly smaller.

Just so folks know - that OSU game was part of a huge push to "Sell Out Ohio State" (click for the MavPuck thread to read what lengths they took, including tickets as low as $1 to get even 13,000)...

They could do a similar push now with WCHA teams so close. Because this time they would actually have a good number of opposing fans there :p

I feel like I'm jumping into this conversation late but...

Pretty much this picture sums up what they should expect:

Who was it that wrote the epic beaver posts during this season? I'm almost positive it was during the gopher / beaver series. I think it boosted his rep from being negative to greatly positive.
