Transfer Season

Some Minnesota fan has a list of the men in the transfer portal. Anyone know if there is a similar list for the women somewhere?

https://gopherpucklive.com/transfer-portal/

Short answer, yes. Long answer...The Gopher Puck Live site (which you link to) has a thread called Women's Team recruiting and that poster has posted the names of the women who have entered the portal.

If you don't want to do that much work here is what has been posted so far (credit goes to GPL poster NorthernGopher218):

I skipped to the end and worked backwards a ways, so maybe there are other "wait...what?" items in there, but....

- I count ELEVEN from LIU. What's going on at LIU?!? Have they been too successful for their own good, and their players think they can move up-and-out of the NEWHA and off to one of the other conferences?

- Braendli ???

Quite a few from BU in the portal as well...

Wow, that's a lot of players in total! It's a whole new world I guess. Lots from BU, PSU, and Mercyhurst.

As far as Penn State players in the portal, only Carrie Byrnes and Jess Ciarrocchi would be off next season's roster (unless you want to count graduated seniors coming back for a fifth year). Amy Dobson and Anna Promersberger were seniors this year, Mikayla Lantto was already off the roster for whatever reason, and Audrey Shirer never played in her only season at Penn State.

There is this misconception among hockey media and fans that LIU is the most successful team in the NEWHA. While overwhelmingly successful for a program that is just three seasons into its existence, they are overall below .500, have won only one NEWHA postseason title (in the first season, less than 24 hours after Saint Anselm played its historic 5OT game in the semifinals), and don't have their own rink on campus.

Sacred Heart, Franklin Pierce, and Saint Anselm are the only three programs that are above .500 in the last three years and the Hawks won several out-of-league games last year (Dartmouth, Brown, Maine and were a goal away from a tie against Quinnipiac). Also, Franklin Pierce was the undisputed best team in the NEWHA this year.

Long story short, 11 is a lot... but for them to have players listed in the Transfer Portal is by no means shocking.

32 conference standings points vs... 32 standings points. LUI and Franklin Pierce split four games head-to-head.

I think LIU might "dispute" it.

:-)

22 wins on the year for Franklin Pierce, a NEWHA Championship, the national leader in GAA and save percentage in net, in addition to winning 14 of the final 15 games does it for me here. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what the teams do in league play (to be realistic here) - it's all about comparing the NEWHA performance to the other leagues especially heading into an AQ year.

Very interested to see how the transfer portal affects the NEWHA - there have been several impact transfers last year (Katerina Dajia at FPU from Dartmouth; Allie Kelley at Saint Anselm from Quinnipiac).

If each team has around 24 players on the roster x 41 teams = 984 D1 players; 102 in the portal, so about 10% are looking to move.

I saw something on twitter that there were the Uconn women's bb coach said 850 women's bb players in the portal, which accounted for like 20% of the players. Also said last year there was over 1000 in the portal, so over the last 2 years just about half of the D1 women's players were looking to move. That's totally crazy.

You can go into the portal, not transfer, and stay on the team you are on. It happened to Jr Shay Donovan of the UW men's hockey this last season. He did play in the last 6 games due to injuries, otherwise he did not play until then and played in 12 games his first 2 seasons.

I can’t recall the transfer portal list ever being shown publicly, thought it could only be seen by coaches. ??

That is technically true but...Especially in men's Football and basketball, there is quite a bit of information that is put out by third party sites tracking who is in the portal.

For NCAA women volleyball, there's a twitter feed that posts graphics of individual athletes when their presence in the portal becomes known, and again when they land at a new school.

This provides some interesting context for sure.

On some level I'm splitting hairs, but I'd argue that there is a difference between "looking to move" and "testing the market." Some portion of the 10% are just for looking for information; to see if any good opportunities are out there. No hard feelings involved. No decision that a change is a must; not necessarily even leaning toward leaving. As an analogy, people browse help wanted ads and real estate listings all the time. Yet many really are just browsing.

I suppose that entering the portal is evidence that a player is "having doubts" about their current situation. But the rest really is an open question. As with Shay Donovan.

But here, your "boss" knows you're reading the want ads. I have to think for a player to enter the portal and make their name known, they had better be farther along than 'just browsing'.

correct.

smart of northeastern to get their advertisement, I mean announcement, out early about their 4 fifth years coming back: Aurard, Brown, Mueller and Murphy. Murphy scored a ton of goals this year didn’t she? NU looks to be pretty good again.

A player’s name & contact info is entered in the portal by the coach’s office or athletic department personnel. It’s a serious decision and not just “testing the waters”

Good points all around. I just found it hard to believe that 10% of all players had already "burned their bridges." But everybody's right, it's more than casual browsing.
