Transfer Season

I don't like the results of the Kepler from OSU to UW for future considerations when those considerations ended up being Webster and Grant. Colgate owes UW yet and maybe MJ can get another player from OSU to even that one out.

Doyle Alexander for John Smoltz.

As a Tigers fan, I'll defend that trade until I die. Alexander was amazing down the stretch in 1987, and there is no way that Detroit catches Toronto without him. The last ten days of that regular season was my favorite time ever as a baseball fan. The Tigers started the year 11-19, and then spent the next five months slowly reeling in the Blue Jays. The two teams played seven games over the last ten days and, other than the final game, in which Frank Tanana outdueled Jimmy Key for a 1-0 victory on a Larry Herndon solo shot, the team that scored first lost every game.

And let's be honest. Over the ensuing decade and a half, the Tigers were terrible. There was no season in which John Smoltz would have been the difference between the team that Detroit was and a team that would have made the playoffs. Between 1989 and 2005, they never finished fewer than seven games out of the postseason.
