Transfer Portal - 2024

Good to hear the Gophers are still contenders and keeping the WCHA strong. I never doubt your fan loyalty Eeyore, I never see TimothyA or Robertearle make the trip to Columbus to support their team like you do.

It's too far away for a weekend trip and I use my vacation days to go fishing in the summer lol.

Just to go off topic for a moment and embrace what we have in common Timothy what's a really good day of fishing for you, pike, walleye, bass?

I don't fish for bass or walleye on purpose. I target musky, pike, perch and blue gils. A really good day for musky is catching one obviously. We have 2 so far this year. I have 2 scenarios for a really good day for pike. Scenario one is fishing the Madison chain and putting 6 in the boat on a morning trip. When fishing up nort on Pickerel Lake, a good day is catching 40 fishing all day. Blue gills I'm fishing for eating, so bringing 15-20 8" to 9" is a solid day having to sort through smaller ones of course. We ran onto some 10"s this last weekend, which was mind blowing. Perch same thing, though the size limit for me keeping them is 9"+. We ran into some 11"s also this weekend. We also ran into some smallies this weekend, those were fun. Saturday was really an above average day, but we fished Kegonsa instead of Waubesa or Monona.

We're heading to Canada in 2 weeks to Wabigoon on a monsta musky pike trip. You catch eyes up there like panfish down here.

Very nice Timothy and best of luck on your musky trip.
I usually spend a week at my cousin's fishing cabin on the eastern tip of the UP fishing the miles wide St.Marys river connecting Superior to Huron. He's retired and trolls all day for pike & musky. He says it's the boats rule monster ones go back in the river. If I ever catch a monster one it may not be the fish that goes in the river if he tries to make me throw it back! He's a goalie so you know he's not quite right, lol.
We do catch the occasional walleye and two years ago we constantly had monster smallmouth hitting our pike baits. He also knows the hotspot to catch a mess of perch for dinner.

You're missing the best eating if you take a pass on walleyes! My favorite "fishing as a kid" memories are of going out on the lake and loading up on walleyes, bringing them back to the cabin and fileting them, and handing them over to my uncle. He would dip them in the best beer batter and fry them up, and we ate like kings. Good luck in Canada...bring your Arnold arms, you're going to need them!

Sounds yummy. The lakes I fish don't have very big walleye populations and I have not much of an idea on the techniques I'd need to use in SE WI to catch them. Perch and pike are our favorites to eat. I think the meat is more firm than a walleye. We will definitely catch eyes in Canada and eat them since they are so easy to catch. It will be a treat. My biggest concern will be if I can post on here from the cabin LOL. I read they have wifi in the cabins so why would it not work?

There is nothing better on the planet than a beer battered walleye fillet! I miss finishing pike and walleye when I lived in North Dakota as a kid. We have them both here in New York, but aren't easy to locate without a boat, which I don't have!

My buddy used to fish Canada flying to remote lakes out of Nakina. He would first catch a small pike in a weedy shallow, cut it's belly into pieces about a half inch by two inch and put one on a plain lead head jig. Then boat out into the lake and one bounce of the jig off the bottom and a walleye every time!

Using pike as walleye bait is disrespectful to the pike.

Amen to that. When I was at Clarkson we would fish for walleye on the Raquette River at night. Great eating when we could catch them. Also went fishing for perch and bass on the St. Lawrence. One of my college friends lived in Massena. His parents had a boat and we would go out on the weekends. One time my buddy was reeling in a perch and a Musky got ahold of it. Unfortunately it spit the perch out about 5 feet from the boat we were in. You could see in the water the fishes mate following all the way to the boat. Bass fishing was really good. My friends dad had a spot on the St Lawrence where he aligned the boat off a couple of islands and then dropped the anchor. Said to throw the bate into a particular weed patch and just about every time we would catch a bass. Those were some fun times.

Largemouth and smallmouth bass are also excellent eating, as are yellow bass and white bass.

I do love the beer batter, but panko crumbs is also an excellent preparation of fish. Dry them, dust them in seasoned flour, then into an egg wash and into the seasoned panko. I fry them in peanut oil for health reasons. Nice thing about panko'ed fish is you can bread them the night before and then throw them in the fridge. Covered. I also freeze them breaded and then give them to my sister.

I still have walleye fillets in my freezer from fishing the spring walleye run in the Maumee River. People were limiting out easily. My wife is crazy for walleye.
One year I made the mistake of going to Port Clinton to fish Lake Erie and the mayfly hatch was in full swing. You can see pics on the web but they coat EVERYTHING like a thick layer of snow and vehicles slide on them like ice! Disgusting! And the fishing goes dead as the fish are feasting on them.

We won't know until after the games have all been played but at this point it looks like Brad Frost is this year's king of the transfer portal.

Maybe I missed it but did Lacey Martin, formerly of Boston University, land anywhere?

It is funny tho. Many posters on the fan forum would hate Muzerall for using the portal. Now Minnesota is losing when it comes to recruitment, and the Great Gopher program needs the portal to attempt to survive and nobody says a word. It's too funny. Best of luck.

Unless I'm mistaken, Minnesota has three players transferring in, while Ohio State has five.
