Tom Anastos, it's time to resign

Re: Tom Anastos, it's time to resign

I'd like to pick apart that article again because there's something that got past me:

"... from all the assessments I’ve put into this and *all the folks I’ve talked to, I’m very confident we’re going to have success here next year and in the immediate future."

*Who exactly is that group comprised of? My guess is Tom Anastos, any of the staff who'd lose their jobs if TA goes, the legally blind and any other yes-men or women in the AD. He probably tuned out the youth coaches who are watching this, scouts, parents, boosters and donors, and the people who've given up their season seats. He and the utterly oblivious trustees are also, clearly, not looking at the number$.

He is well on his way to having the worst season in MSU hockey history. I think its time to go a different direction...I honestly don't know how anybody can rationalize keeping him after this year.

Mike Eaves wasn't fired from Wisconsin after the worst season in Wisconsin modern history....It took another whole year of losing and losing season ticket holders, that will probably never come back. I feel your pain.

Didn't realize msu was even worse this year. Figured last year was rock bottom.

Eaves had 2 horrible years and had a past history of success..this clown has had 5 horrid seasons....naked pictures of the AD with a goat is the only explanation.

Current worst seasons in MSU hockey history by category (starting with Amo's 1st year):

NUMBER OF WINS

4 (24 games) in 1959-60
7 (36 games) in 1977-78
8 (26 games) in 1963-64

WINNING %

.166 in 1959-60 (4-18-1)
.194 in 1977-78 (7-27-2)
.263 in 2008-09 (10-23-5)

If MSU loses their last 5 games (at OSU, at MN, Big 10 tournament), they would finish at 6-26-3 with a win % of .171 this season.

And they're already way past guaranteeing a dubious distinction - in the modern history of the program (1950-present), the Spartans never posted a losing record in 4 out of 5 seasons...until now.

Re: Tom Anastos, it's time to resign

The good news for MSU is michigan sucks. Bad news is this has to be it for Berenson. Michigan obviously a more attractive job but MSU could have gotten a head start on the rebuild by pulling the plug on Anastos earlier.

But he has the best class he's ever had coming in for the 3rd straight year...time for another extension?

This is year six of the Tom Anastos 10-year rebuild plan. This is only a problem if UM cans Berenson this year, then cans his replacement four years from now.

Pretty sure that Hollis, or the nw AD when they arrive, has bigger fish to fry in your neck of the woods.

But since this is a hockey thread, I can echo the quoted statement: It's time to go in a new direction.

Re: Tom Anastos, it's time to resign

So here's the thing: Seth Appert gets fired by RPI with a .418 career record through 11 seasons, 3 of them winning, in a program that had 9 past NCAA appearances, and 2 championships in their 116-year history. And only brief forays into the tournament in 32 years. He gets let go despite having a contract through 2020-21. I'm doubtful that at this point MSU's coach will get the axe, with the prospect of the university only being on the hook currently until 2019-20.

I hate to be a debbie-downer but how does this look if Anastos gets another chance, following in the shadow of 30 pretty good years of MSU hockey?

Most coaches probably find it unbelievable he was hired by a program like MSU in the first place and clinging to him probably gives off the impression that this athletic department could not care less about this program. Hiring a coach with 0 experience looks odd but holding on to said coac while more qualified people at lesser programs get axed for better performances looks as if this program is completely ignored.
