Hollis does want to see smarter scheduling from Anastos and other Big Ten programs, which need higher win totals more than brutal non-conference competition to improve their standing in the Pairwise rankings, which determine NCAA tournament bids.

Nice to see Denver, North Dakota, Michigan Tech, and of all teams, Lake Superior State are considered "brutal non-conference competition."

Going off that, New Hampshire will be a regular fixture on the MSU schedule.

I'm just going to copy and paste this from my Facebook page. Hopefully, I can look back on this post in, like, two years and say, "Ha! Anthony! You idiot! Anastos was great for Michigan State hockey! You jumped the gun!"

Anyway...

I've been expecting this announcement since last month. I knew it was coming, I knew Hollis was going to double down, but I still couldn't brace myself for it.

I'm feeling a weird mix of extremely negative emotions right now.

Anastos lost 23 games last year. He has a career losing record as the coach of this program. Next year's team could very easily lose 30 games - I think it'll arguably be one of the worst teams with Anastos at the helm. Yet, it doesn't matter. Anastos can go 0-36-0 next season and lose in the first round of the Big Ten tournament, and, apparently, it still won't matter because now we're throwing out the past five years and looking only at the next five.

I like Tom. I'm always liked Tom. I've had the pleasure of meeting Tom twice, and he was nothing but nice and courteous both times. He's a good man and a good Spartan. He still shouldn't be the coach of this program. MSU was a bad team on its best days last season and a horrendous team on its worst. Yet, they shouldn't have been that bad. That team had enough talent and senior leadership to be, at the very least, competitive with the rest of this extremely down conference we play in - a conference, by the way, that's about to get tougher, both on the ice and on the recruiting trail, with Notre Dame coming in.

Hollis is a smart guy. But this is a bone-headed decision driven by stubbornness. The mad scientist just has to make this experiment work, even if he blows up the program in the process.

Anastos has been the best thing to ever happen at Mi. State. Tom has shown that anyone with next to nothing in coaching experience can end up coaching a division one sport with next to nothing in coaching ability . Because of Tom Anastos, so many now have hope that they also will one day having no experience in coaching can still end up as head of a division one sport.

I will personally set fire to Yost if Tommy Boy gets hired in Ann Arbor. That's like saying we'll fire Coach Harbaugh in favor of John L. Smith. There is no reason to be so obtuse.

I'm pretty sure Michigan will be offering big bucks for Mel Pearson to return to Michigan once Red retires. We shall see once the time comes.

I am sure Joe Shawhan is waiting to take the head coaching job at Mi. Tech should Pearson leave.

Yes, we knew it was coming. But what is disturbing is the attitude the AD exhibited. It reads as if he doesn't give a R's A's if it does take another five to ten years. And that is unacceptable. tCHHCoMSU is currently 71-98-20??? 27 games under 0.500 in five years. and that is with two season's (totaling 9 games above 0.500.). So in his three years of below 0.500, he is 36 games under. That's a record to point to with pride. Any decent coaching staff, could have taken the talent, meager as it may have been, coming in and produced much better results. And quite frankly, Graham Crouch should recognize that and report it. That he didn't is a travesty of responsible journalism.

Yep. The only question would be, does Mel want to go back? Based on anecdotal evidence, the answer is no. However, we won't know for sure until the day comes.

Back to Anastos though. I'm sorry, MSU fans...but, I'm not sorry. You know? :)
