To The Joe! 2011 CCHA Championship Edition: UM, ND, MU, WMU

Re: To The Joe! 2011 CCHA Championship Edition: UM, ND, MU, WMU

I usually base my estimation of a program on the behavior of the coach and players, not the fans. ALL schools have some obnoxious fans rooting for them. They typically make the most noise and are the most noticeable. To me, it is a bit naive (to use a polite word) to try to characterize a program by that.

This coming from someone who roots for a team that played their own fight song throughout the trophy presentation when Notre Dame won the Mason Cup in 2009. I have no problem with a defeated UM having their band play after losing, but this was substantially after the game had ended. Fans in the stands, on their own and proud of their team chanting in unison is one thing. A pep band, with a representative of their university in their band leader, playing over another schools moment is completely different.

They were playing the Alma Mater during the presentation. We always play it if we win or lose (except for Friday night for some odd reason...). Thanks for playing.

Go Michigan and all teams that would give us the easy path to the title no matter the conference! I am going to start rooting for my future BTHC brothers of Wisky, Minny, M$U, PSU, and tO$U.

Congrats on a good season. Took a former Miami assistant to reinvigorate your listless program.

Who said I was a Broncos fan? I was pulling for WMU to win, but I went to school on the west side of Michigan that could just as well chant safety school at WMU as anybody else. :p

Hope grad? Hope is a great school. There a few hope grads in my graduate program at Michigan.

There was wmu fan four rows behind me having an episode telling people to sit down. He almost got into an altercation with a Miami fan after a Miami goal before the ushers broke it up.

wastern fans DID NOT act like they've been there before. During the award ceremony when Miami players were being recognized the wastern fans were chanting "Let's go Broncos". Absolutely pathetic...
The WMU students where there, were roudy during the games, had a little fun with some cheers and wasn't afraid to mix it up a bit with the Michigan students or the Miami band there. They could have used a little more creativity as "Let's go Broncos!" does get a but old, but they where there and not sitting on their hands.

Also, who else here thinks Kuhn should have been named the tournament goalie? He had a lot more impressive stops he made compared to the guy from Miami. WMU wouldn't have been in the championship game without Kuhn. You can't say the same about miami's goalie.

I think everyone is missing the real issue...

WHERE WAS THE OPEN BAR ON FRIDAY NIGHT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I don't know too many students or young alumni that can afford many $7 beers or $8 glasses of wine. Though Miami got blasted by UM last year, I had a great time getting it out of my system at the Friday night party with the assistance of way too many glasses of wine. That shindig was packed and hopping into the wee hours of the morning. This year, there were maybe 30 people there, mostly just standing around sipping on their beverages and chatting. NOT A PARTY! I can understand the decision to scrap the cash bar... I'm sure they lost a good chunk of change last year, but at least subsidize the thing and offer $2-4 drinks. Maybe next year...

However, I'll take the Mason Cup over the party any year. :D

Thanks to the fans and bands from all four schools that made the weekend a lot of fun. I want to compliment the WMU fans for their turnout and their passion (though sometimes it went too far...) and I want to give a shout out to the WMU student for his "Shegos both ways" sign, too. ND fans were respectful as always and, other than some snide remarks from a few Michigan fans every so often, even they were a relatively decent bunch. ;)

Hope to be there when Miami returns to defend their title next year!

They only decided on not having the open bar after NMU was eliminated. The Yoopers would have torched the place in response to $7 beer.

Hell, after that they would have crossed the river and sacked Caesars Windsor like their ancestral bloodlines say they would.

Wow...what can I say? It was an amazing weekend, even with Saturday's result. I was completely blown away by the support for our school both Friday and Saturday.

I can only hope that this was the start of something special, and not just a flash in the pan. With Blashill at the helm, I have full confidence that he is awakening a sleeping giant.

Thank you Blashill!

I did not think Kuhn was sharp in the Miami game. He mis-played the initial shot on the McKenzie wrap-around and also lost a rebound off a Cannone shot that he retrieved and fed to Smith in front for one of his two goals. And, kind of the same on the Paulazzo goal. So, I'd say no. I think Reichard was the right choice...Johnson was not good and Hunwick really struggled against WMU.
