Re: This Week In Hockey East - Jan 28-30 Picks

So, in true tournament fashion, give me the winners of each level of the playoffs before 1PM on Saturday. Good luck:D.

Is there an escalating point structure as is common place in most play-off pools where you have to predict all rounds ahead of time ?

Completely off the wall prediction. PC to take the crown.

Re: This Week In Hockey East - Jan 28-30 Picks

Any suggestions?

Double points each round, for example.....

If you have 1 point per game in regular season then...
2 points for each quarter game
4 points for each Semi game
8 points for the final.

That way you can get the same point total each round (if you were to have four quarters in a standard format).
This format means you have to pick the final right to win. The fun part is in having to do it ahead of the start of the quarters.

Virtually all soccer pools from across the pond work that way. (I'm only batting 52% in the current CL/EL pool)

That was the guidance I was looking for. Thanks:)

So here are the rules:
-4 points for each quarterfinal game
-6 points for each semifinal game (even though the number of games are the same, it is more challenging since one team is unknown)
-12 points for the championship game

Oh, and anyone can play (even if you didn't participate in the regular season rounds)!

Re: This Week In Hockey East - Jan 28-30 Picks

Hockey East announced the award winners for this season. The awards will be handed out tomorrow night at the league banquet being held at the Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge, Mass.

WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- The Women's Hockey East Association announced on Wednesday its All-Rookie Team for the 2010-2011 season, as voted on by the league's eight head coaches, which will be presented at the ninth annual WHEA Awards Banquet on Friday night in Boston to kickoff the league's Championship weekend hosted by Boston University at Walter Brown Arena.

Boston University forward Marie-Philip Poulin (Beauceville, Que.) headlined the first-year squad, while goaltender Kerrin Sperry (North Reading, Mass.) was also honored from the regular-season champion Terriers roster. Providence College also placed a pair of student-athletes on the team with defenseman Rebecca Morse (Westfield, N.J.) and forward Corinne Buie (Edina, Minn.). Boston College blueliner Meagan Mangene (Miller Place, N.Y.), Northeastern forward Katie MacSorley (Stratford, Ont.) and Vermont goalie Roxanne Douville (Beloeil, Que.) completed this year's seven-member All-Rookie squad.

Poulin, who was the only unanimous selection to the team, led all rookies with 19 points in league action and her 1.46 points per game was third best overall among league skaters. Sperry from BU was crowned the league's Goaltending Champion for her outstanding play with a 1.19 GAA and a .945 save percentage (15 starts; 12-1-2 record) in league play this season. Buie's 17 points in conference games were second among rookies, while Morse posted 12 points in 19 league games. Mangene was a +10 in 20 league games, which is second best amongst first-year players for the Eagles. MacSorley recorded eight goals in 21 league games for the Huskies and also registered the most shots on goal by a freshman this season with 88. Douville amassed a 1.96 GAA and a .928 save percentage in 18 league starts for the Catamounts.

Providence senior forward Jean O'Neill (Strafford, Pa.) was honored with the Sportsmanship Award for her clean play on the ice. O'Neill only logged two penalty minutes in league play, to go along with nine points and a +7 rating in 14 league games for the Friars. Boston University senior Catherine Ward (Montreal, Que.) was named the league's second recipient of the Best Defenseman Award, while her teammate Holly Lorms (Wauwatosa, Wis.) was honored by the coaches with the Best Defensive Forward distinction. Ward finished the league schedule with a league best 21 points and 1.00 points per game. Lorms registered 16 points in league play with a +12 rating for the first place Terriers. The Northeastern University women's team was honored with the Turfer Athletic Award, which is presented annually to an individual, coach or team who best represents the core values of Turfer Athletics; tenacity, commitment and innovation.

Boston College senior captain Kelli Stack earned the Scoring Champion distinction with 33 points (22g,11a) in conference play this season, edging out BU's Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ont.), who finished with 27 points. Stack also took home the Army ROTC Three Stars Award after being named a Star of the Game 12 times, including the First Star on seven occasions this season.

The Women's Hockey East Association is an eight-team, Division-I college hockey conference which began play in 2002-2003, with offices based in Wakefield, Mass. The league also sponsors an 10 team men's league which began play in 1984-1985.
