This Week In Hockey East

Re: This Week In Hockey East

Had a quick question that I didn't want to open up a new thread for...

What is a game-winning-goal? (Obviously, I know what it is, but statistically, how does it get counted?) Speaking to PCs stats (but I have noticed it on others), we won two games against Maine, but we only have 1 GWG counted. My guess is because the first was a shut-out, but I don't know for sure.

A game winner is the goal that stands up as the game winner. Say in a 3-2 game Player A scores a goal to put his team up 4-2. That goal will be the winner if the other team manages to score a 3rd goal.

As far as the PC stats I see Cohen and Cottrell each have a GWG on the stat sheet.

Thanks, I was looking at the stats on the Friars home page and only Cottrell is listed. However, I noticed the ones on HockeyEast do have them both listed. I was wondering if I was just missing something.

Too Late: BC netminder Corinne Boyles is a tad late getting over to prevent Lori Antflick's backhander from finding mesh. The goal staked the Huskies to a 1-0 lead.

Look MA, I'm A Forward: With three points on the night, defenseman Lindsay Berman led the attack for the Huskies.

A very interesting weekend. I don't know if we are seeing true signs of parity, or Chippity, or if these results a just fluke upsets. (Though I must say I'm not surprised by the Syracuse victory over the Friars:D )

BC-QU :Tie
BU-WSU: Tie
Syracuse- UConn: UConn wins by 1
Providence over Colgate 4-1
Clarky over Vermont 4-0

UNH-Niagara: Purple eagles comeback to earn a 3-3 tie :(
NU-Quinnipiac: Quinny blanks Northeastern 1-0
Clarkson-Vermont: Catamounts turn the tables, win 4-1
UConn-Colgate: Colgate drubs UConn 5-2
Providence-Syracuse: Oops, its the Orange with the upset 3-1 win
BU over Wayne State: yup BU takes it 4-2

BC-Maine: Yet another tie for the Eagles, 1-1
UNH-Niagara: Order is set right as 'Cats score 6 unanswered goals in 6-1 win

Black Bears to Hold Annual Skating Strides Game on Saturday
Special pink jerseys to be auctioned off

Oct. 20, 2009

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team will be hosting their annual "Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer" game on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. when they host Robert Morris at Alfond Arena.

Over the past three years, the Women's Hockey East league has hosted the "Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer" event at all of the Hockey East campuses. The event is an effort to raise funds and promote awareness of Breast Cancer. Over the past three years, the league has raised over $90,000 and this year the University of Maine women's ice hockey team is asking for your help and support.

The Black Bears will be wearing special pink jerseys on Saturday in honor of the fight against Breast Cancer. A selection of the jerseys will be auctioned off during the game on Oct. 24 with the rest to be auctioned online at www.GoBlackBears.com from Oct. 24-29. There will be a ceremonial puck drop before the start of the game and the Black Bears will be on hand for an autograph session at the conclusion of the game.

Admission is free to the game but donations are welcome. All proceeds from this wonderful event will stay local and go directly to the Maine branch of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Fashionista: Former Wildcats standout Sam Faber sports the UNH Hockey Fleece Pullover, available at finer souvenir booths throughout the Whitt. (and quite possibly the internet in the future.)

Re: This Week In Hockey East

Anyone know who won the shootout between NU and PC?

Edit: By the way, why do they even bother doing shootouts if they don't record it on the scoresheet?

Re: This Week In Hockey East

I was wondering the same thing. My feed crapped out after the first period. Usually on the box score it does say "NU wins shootout 2-1" or something like that. I can't think of a reason they wouldn't do it. And the conference points indicate each team received one point.

Jensen scored PC's 2nd shootout goal. Think Ruff got the first. 2-1

See the caption below for your answer.

We Have A Winner: Saturday's BU-UNH tilt went to a sudden death shooutout after five rounds and 10 shooters came up empty. Laurel Koller used a forehand shot, blocker side to beat Kaley Herman and gain the coveted extra tie breaker point for the Terriers.
