Re: The WJC Thread that HOKYDOPE didn't Start. USA! USA! USA!

The 7 cuts were Adam Clendening (BU), Jamie Oleksiak (NU), Philip Samuelsson (BC), Connor Brickely (UVM), Rocco Grimaldi (U-18), Matt Nieto (BU) and Brandon Saad (Saginaw-OHL).

Ha, so much for Clendening being a lock. I believe Federal League also said he was hearing Samuelsson was a lock. Ultimately I think they got these two decisions right. And all the time I thought Wey would be a perfect 7th dman for this team. No complaints from me.

Rocco Grimaldi was Robbed!!

Agreed. He would have been awesome to watch in this tournament. In the end, though, both USA and Canada ended up taking the older, more experienced guys. Looking forward to seeing him on the team the next two years.

He probably is a good fit for the 7th defenseman as he can do a little bit of everything, he's a hybrid with no specialty, really.

That's what my sources told me, anyway! :D:D:D

Federal League was so laughably wrong with those predictions. Shocker. Good to see 3 BC kids on the roster. I'm glad Wey made it ahead of Samuelsson, clearly the right choice there. I thought Nieto would make it ahead of Coyle based on what I've seen on the ice this year, but the higher NHL pick always seems to win these battles.

I know the US has carried major junior players before, but there still seems to be a belief that they don't want to take those players. Tough to leave Saad off, no? Tearing up the OHL...

They probably don't want to put up with Don Cherry complaining about how Canada REALLY won the gold medal because Canada trained the USA players...

There are 4 major junior players on the roster: Campbell, Bourque, Callahan and Etem. There are also 4 pros on the roster: Leddy, D'Amigo, Morin and Palmieri. The other 14 are NCAA players.

Of those 8, how many were on USNTDP? Campbell and D'Amigo I know for sure.

Palmieri, Shore, Brown, Morin, D'Amigo were all USNTDP'ers that I'm 100 percent sure of.

I believe Zucker and Forbort were too but not 100 percent on it.

USA tied the Czechs in pre-tourney exhibition action, 2-2. Kyle Palmieri had both USA goals.

The First Lady was at the game and said it was a fantastic game.

I love how the boxscore lists the game in "Upstate NY" is Rochester, NY that hard to say?

Can't wait for Sunday!

If anyone is looking at going to Sunday's Finland/US game. There are tons of good seats still available for cheap.

I'm currently kicking myself for not waiting longer. There are seats listed now at center ice, row 11 for $41 each.

That's a steal folks. Those are two of the best seats in the house going for well below face value.

Zucker was with the USNTDP for 2 years
Forbort, too.

Clendening was injured in the second exhibition game, you BC dunces. He would've made the team if not for that. Obviously my source was wrong about Samuelsson vs. Wey. I said I didn't think Samuelsson should make it, so I'm not at all disappointed that turned out to be wrong. And if you remember, hokydad also said Brickley would make it. No one got the whole roster right. I had some info I thought the board would find interesting, so I shared it. Sorry I tried adding something to the conversation.

Merry Christmas to everyone's sources! Even if they don't know what they're talking about.

Oh, ok. Well, if he's now injured, I guess he won't be suiting up for BU in their holiday tourney?

He got passed over a different CHL kid that had played one year with the NTDP in Etem, so it's hard to call bias. He was in the same boat as Nieto. Top-notch scorer, but if he wasn't going to play on a top scoring line, he's a fairly average skater and defensive player.

And Forbort only played one year at the NTDP.

Interesting that this description probably applies to 80% of the top college stars and is the thing that keeps many of them out of the NHL down the road.
