The UND Discussion Thread - We Miss Chay

Re: The UND Discussion Thread - We Miss Chay

I'm not saying it will happen, but UND has a chance at a #1 seed.
They are currently tied for #4 with BC and SCSU.

Exactly. The only thing seperating UND from a #1 seed right now is .0039 in RPI points between themselves and BC. If we win on Thursday night, that gap decreases to .0014. That would basically set up the weekend where BC either has to win Hockey East, or North Dakota has to lose both games for BC to get the #4 seed.

Ultimately, I don't think it will matter too much because I think BC/UND wind up 4/5 someway or another it will just be a matter of whether it will be BC coming out West or UND going out East.

Re: The UND Discussion Thread - We Miss Chay

It has cost Eids plenty of times over the last two seasons...We are all aware of it :p:D:D

I guess what I meant by DU being overrated is that some people on this board think that DU is the best team. From what I've seen in college hockey as a whole this season, is that there are about a half dozen teams with legitimate shots at the National Championship and there isn't much that seperates those teams. IMO, DU is no better than Wisconsin, North Dakota, Miami, or Boston College.

I've only seen DU about 4-5 times (again, thanks to FSports), but they look really solid. Some teams still traditionally play them tough (UAA, MTU, I'm looking in your direction) but DU still stands tall. Are they heads and shoulders above the rest? No, I agree with you there. But they are deserving of a favorite to win it all. WI I think is overrated, though. I think they flame out in the 2nd round.

I agree that Denver should be a favorite to win it all. They have found ways to win games all year, including 4 over the Sioux. And they have a great goalie. I didn't expect great things from this Sioux team this year - too many young players. But it only takes 4 wins to win the NC, and they are playing their best hockey of the year right now, so why not?

You have that right. Although I can't say I'm surprised.

Re: The UND Discussion Thread - We Miss Chay

Largely because you've basically already crowned DU as national champions. As most Sioux fans could tell you, we have yet to play DU at full strength. I would love to get another shot (or two) at DU before this season is done. They are slightly overrated in my opinion.

I don't believe DU is overrated but I do believe Wisconsin is overrated.

Re: The UND Discussion Thread - We Miss Chay

Wrong. I said in Jan to watch out for UND:

1. Their traditional second-half surge
2. Even when they played badly, they still played pretty good.

Also, congrats to the Sioux for making the F5. Tonight showed why they are in the NCAA's, and why they are a dangerous team (no twist of words on this on, as to: Frattin hit, I'm sincere). After seeing about a dozen games of them (thank you FCS) they will make noise in the tourney.

And DU is not overrated. They are just not flashy. They do just enough to win. And Chevy is a man amongst children.

Hint, though: tell Eids not to bobble the puck so much. Against teams not named MTU/MN, that's gonna cost him sooner or later.

I guess we will find out if UND is a number one seed. I say no. Are they in the NCAA's yep as s second or third seed in the same bracket as BC.:p

Re: The UND Discussion Thread - We Miss Chay

I think any of the remaining WCHA teams can win in St. Paul or Detroit. I also think Miami and BC have decent shots at it.

Winning these tourneys usually comes down to goaltending and senior leadership....

I'd say in order:

DU
UND
WI
(t)tUMD
(t)SCSU

The tie is because both have suspect goaltending with a non-deep scoring threat. I really can't decide.

And I almost put UND over DU, but Chevy was the difference. Eids planted just enough doubt in my head, and with the possible Frattin suspension, that could hurt UND.

Please. Morganna the Kissing Bandit has a better chance of making an appearance at the Final Five and smooching Rheet Rakhshani than SCSU does of winning in Detroit.

Re: The UND Discussion Thread - We Miss Chay

UND imo has no chance of seeing a number one seed.
They do...but quite a few things have to go right for it to happen. I don't think they will without winning the F5.

Silly Gopher fan, we beat BC in the regionals, it's the Frozen Four where we have trouble with them. :)

Agreed. If Frattin is suspended for more than a game, then the Sioux would be playing DU (if we beat UMD) shorthanded once again. Also, Chevy has played on a level above everyone else in the conference this season. I would give him an advantage over Eids.

Looking at it a little more, if BC wins their Semi in the HE tourney, UND almost has to win the Final Five with BC losing in the HE title game. If BC loses their semi, then we would only have to finish 3rd or higher.

Re: The UND Discussion Thread - We Miss Chay

I wonder when/if we will hear more about any disciplinary action against Frattin for the F5?
It would be a huge loss if Frattin is unable to play on Thurs, as that Malone/Frattin/Trupp line has been absolutely outstanding for the last month or so. That said, if the league imposes a suspension, I certainly won't oppose or complain about it.

It's great to see the team really playing well with the NCAA tourney looming. If the Sioux win on Thurs night, that would be 6 games played in 9 days the week before the NCAA, which isn't ideal.
Brad mentions that on his blog:

f UND beats Duluth on Thursday, the Sioux will have to play six games in nine days. It's not an ideal situation leading into the NCAA tournament. So, Hakstol said the team's practices and time on ice will be carefully monitored this week.

Hope the drunk-driving goon gets three games. Fair is fair!

I think you're right, the teams are battle tested from a long WCHA season.

Re: The UND Discussion Thread - We Miss Chay

Just amazing how touchy you "fighting" flickertails are. You really suck at living!

I'm not touchy, I'm trying to explain the truth to you. Why do all SCSU fans think any time anyone responds to them that that person is either touchy or obsessed? It's strange.

Now when MMFF tries to murder someone this weekend, he'll be suspended for three games.
