FYI the 1977/78 DU team (33-6-1) was rated the #1 team in the final Hockey News poll after BU won the national tourney. DU was ineligible to play in the NCAA tourney and Doug Berry of DU was named national player of the year (Hobey Award didn't exist yet).

I don't remember exactly, but I believe that '78 DU squad finished just outside the Top 25. I don't have my computer with the exact ranking right now, but I can post where they finished later. Also of note, the '78 DU squad won the MacNaughton in the last series of the season by sweeping Wisconsin, but fell to rival CC in one of the two Playoff Championship series. The '78 WCHA Playoff Championship remains CC's only conference playoff championship to date.

Has anyone completed the Predict the Top Ten contest form yet?

I only ask because apparently they have received 0 submissions (minus the trial submission).

Further, does anyone plan to complete it? 20 submissions are apparently required for the contest to proceed, and all forms must be in by January 1st in the morning (I want to say by 8am eastern).

That would be great. Had DU been eligible for the NCAAs, no doubt in my mind that they win the series against CC and move onto the NCAAs. DU lost the first game of the WCHA 2-game series against CC on the evening that they found out that the courts would not let them go to the NCAAs. They came back to win the 2nd game but lost the 2-game total goals and CC moved on. Jeff Sauer, coach of CC, told me after the series that DU was the best team they faced all season. That Wisconsin series was epic. Going to Madison and sweeping the defending national champs in Dade County Coliseum was unbelievable. The Badgers had Mark Johnson, Mike Eaves and Julian Barretta. The 1977/78 DU team has the 2nd most wins of any DU team including more than all 7 national championship teams. Only the 1985/86 team with 34 wins had more but they played 48 games while the 77/78 team only played 40.

The 1977-1978 DU squad finished 57th on the list of the greatest college hockey teams of the NCAA era.

Seemed easy enough to me...probably a little difficult to do the work. Might be easier if you gave everyone a list of the top 30 not listed yet or something...might make it too easy then...

Yeah, we debated about giving everyone the top 10 (obviously not in order) and then have people rank them in what they thought was the correct order. Ultimately, we decided against that.

Hopefully with teams getting back in action this weekend, more people will be visiting the site and filling out the form.

You have another entry, and there are other schools besides Denver on the list.

Do I get my choice of home or away jersey?;):rolleyes::D

PS: #57 was way too low for DU's 77-78 team

Good deal. We now have 5 entries, so hopefully more people get on board. As for home/away preference, I'm not sure. If you gave your email, I would think they could let the winner know that they won and ask for which style the winner prefers. I'll let the guy keeping track of the contest know of the question.

Don't figure I have much of any chance to win, but submitted an entry anyways because I enjoy your work and hope that enough people participate so that someone has the chance to win the jersey.
