The States: Why does Minnesota wanna be Kansas?

Re: The States: Why does Minnesota wanna be Kansas?

These either have nothing to do with US Bank stadium or are speculation of what a US Bank stadium might look like. Next year when you show these irrelevant docs, they'll look even more ridiculous.

So the fact that no publicly-funded stadium built in the last 20-30 years has had an independent study show it was an a net economic gain for the community does phase you?

And somehow US Bank Stadium will buck the trend of "never"? Sure thing.

Many numbers are already in the books. Economic benefits - events booked at well over $500m, key catalyst for billions in regional development, and benefits of the Vikings - make a break even already a done deal.
Yeah, and how much of those amazing events like the Super Bowl were really economic wins? The state and local communities forked over hundreds of millions in handouts to get the Super Bowl here. I'd be willing to guess the net revenues from the Super Bowl were negative. Same thing with the Final Four and any other premier event. These costs are never factored into the team-sponsored studies.

Re: The States: Why does Minnesota wanna be Kansas?

I believe it. MN doesn't have the population of New England. The Vikings were flirting with LA...and subsequently two teams moved there. So for us, a real threat.

.

Yes I do recall half the football teams using the threat of moving to LA as a hostage in their negotiations with the cities and states they were located in. Wonder what the next grift will be now that that option is closed off for the time being? "We're moving to St. Louis" doesn't carry quite the same impact. :D

Re: The States: Why does Minnesota wanna be Kansas?

Sounds like speculation. It also doesn't appear to include many other collateral benefits including the circulation of money or long term ongoing benefits.

You sounds like Trump. "The costs are fake, but the benefits, the benefits are real."

You mean you can't just have all 32 teams move to LA?

Re: The States: Why does Minnesota wanna be Kansas?

The arguments 'against' stadiums have typically been quite suspect to me in the size and scope of economic (and other) benefits attributed to them. Yes some revenues would result regardless but that's a short-sighted and lazy (if not downright pre-determined) analysis.

Need to hey up in a few hours so will expand on this later.

Re: The States: Why does Minnesota wanna be Kansas?

Idk if there is an argument against the stadiums themselves, the argument is that taxpayers are paying more than they're benefiting from them and there's been a ton of studies illustrating that (some of which DX posted). I don't think anyone here has a problem with owners privately funding their own stadium.

Have you actually been in Downtown East lately? I work there, and it's sorely lacking a in a great many things. Those two WF buildings put up, their skyways are near barren, but clearly designed to a series of shops/restaurants that nobody has interest in opening. There are some There's a giant street-level bar space is the WF 600 building that's going unused.

For hosting these events, what were the directly incurred costs of those events? They're suspiciously missing the Strib's articles.

That's yet to be proven...and likely will be debunked by neutral-party economists in a few years. They always debunk them, like clockwork.

He wont go Downtown...he is too afraid of all those bullets whizzing by him as he drives down 394 :D

The Super Bowl was not as beneficial as some people are pretending it was. If it never came back I wouldnt care and I was one of the few that actually benefited from it.

Stadiums are nothing but ways to hand the owners money. The average joe gets almost nothing out of it. That doesnt bug me too much since watching pro football in person is as boring as watching flies **** (see also: Baseball) but anyone who pretends otherwise is deluded. You can think stadiums are total ripoffs but still be glad they get built.

“GOP Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin is canceling dental and vision benefits for nearly 500,00 Medicaid recipients, in response to a court ruling that blocked him from imposing work requirements on Medicaid.”

Yeah! Put the elderly disabled and children to work!!

Just go to the Supreme Court. That ruling will be overturned in a heartbeat.

Well if you believe that Kentucky is populated by blind, toothless people, then you are vindicated.

I wonder if "rural" counties are being exempted from this as well.

The great State of Maine just had their governor veto a ban on gay conversion therapy due to "religious liberty." All the good Christians can now enjoy their freedom to psychologically torture children.
