The States: Why does Minnesota wanna be Kansas?

Re: The States: Why does Minnesota wanna be Kansas?

CO is not toying with the idea of splitting up, that is complete rubbish. There are a few nutbars in the NE corner that want to "secede", there is zero chance of it happening.

Exactly. I'm sure there are f-cktards in Alabama who feel their liberal state gummint has gotten too soft on Them Coloreds and are collecting signatures to secede into The God Blessed Dominion of Lynchistan.

What, are they mad about how the marijuana taxes are paying for so much??

They're pouty they can't drag gays from their pickups anymore. John Wayne would have wanted it this way.

You're on fire today. Go Kep!

Re: The States: Why does Minnesota wanna be Kansas?

I don't see other states looking into the possibility of splitting up.....

So that justifies the derp? There's a reason the rurals have districts that represent them and if their population dwindles then so does their representation. What's wrong with that?

Say they do break CA into 3 states - where does it end? Because at some point a % of each one of the new 3 is going to feel disenfranchised and start crying. How far down to we take it to try and satisfy the few at all costs?

Being an east coastie, slamming easterners probably created a little dissonance for you.

The weird thing is, I think that's exactly right. When I read his comment the first time, I didn't think anything of it. Then I was like, wait a minute.

I had never really thought of it before, but I suppose all of the the west coast elites think of "easterners" as being the rubes. :p

It is interesting to live on the Pac coast. The sun rises in the wrong place, and the dumb people are east of you instead of west of you.

Permission to put this line in my signature alongside the Carlin quotes? :D

Somebody already has it in their sig. Oddly, this is not the first time I have been an idiot.

See, that's the beauty of the midwest. We can look either east or west and see the dumb people. In fact, there are probably many of you here who would claim we're surrounded by them. :D

Re: The States: Why does Minnesota wanna be Kansas?

There have been talks of the UP breaking off every now and again, but nothing serious in decades. Now that mining and timber are no longer prominent industries it'll never happen.

The UP proposals are always a joke, because the people wanting to secede always feel that the UP gets overlooked for state funding. What the derps fail to realize is that while the UP makes up 30% of the state of Michigan in area, the population is barely 3% of the state.

Christ, the county I'm from once spent two hours of a county road commission meeting debating hiring a summer help kid for 12 weeks at minimum wage *OR* re-graveling a much needed stretch of well traveled county road. The village fire department just bought a *new to them* used firetruck from a neighboring city that bought it used 20 years ago.

Re: The States: Why does Minnesota wanna be Kansas?

I will say I'd be okay with CA splitting up. Not for political reasons, but simply for nutjob reasons. That state is a different breed, and definite differences. Also see: CO.

This is strictly a ploy for the GOP. If you move a third of CAs electoral college from D to R...you've just nerfed the largest block of blue in the country.

CO is (unsuccessfully) toying with the idea because of rural/urban differences. The rurals feel the urbans are not giving the rurals what they need in the government. I guess it's a REALLY sharp divide out there.

I proposed better separating urban and rural areas by legislation in the guns thread. Imagine if you allow rural areas to have C&C as they want and urban areas to dump it as they want. You can start to live without your security endangered by people in small town America. The only issue is that everyone would pour into the cities even faster.

The fact that it's called the Midwest confirms that you shouldn't cast stones. Anyone with half a brain and a map could tell you that you are in the Mideast ;)

CA is big enough in population, that's my only reason.

TX keeps spouting off how they want to secede from the nation, and to me, that's ludicrous. I could understand a split state, though.

None of this will happen, anyway. It's just fodder for everyone to talk about.

The mayor of St. Paul is cancelling their 4th of July fireworks.

Look, I’m not exactly a Murica guy, but this is ****ing dumb.
