The States: Where We Wish Texas Would Secede Already

This whole discussion perfectly encapsulates any discussion on the issue.

RaceBoarder (the former athlete) raises an actual valid point regarding the science and biology of the issue.

Drew (the idiot) completely derails the discussion with dumb, wild hypotheticals.

geezer and Handy (the liberals who have little understanding of the actual issue) completely dismiss the whole discussion, mostly because of people like Drew.

The issue I see is once one team/school has success with trans athletes other teams will try to replicate it. Hopefully this doesn’t happen but never underestimate how ***** a lot of parents and coaches are.

Oh, believe us, we know. We have to deal with your lunatic ravings, right?

So if I'm coaching a girl's team in some Ohio town, and we're losing, all I have to do is say "They're using a boy!" and the girls on the other team have to submit to what is essentially sexual assault or we win by forfeit. And remember: the law is specifically written to protect ME as the accuser and not the girls. I can go around making baseless accusations against any athlete and there are never repercussions for me.

Seems like a good idea. That will definitely increase participation among female students and promote that sense of fair play Drew seems so worried about.

And, not for nothing, but who is going to pay the doctors who have to give these examinations? The state? The school? Individual families? Or are we expecting the doctor to do it for free? I guess you could attract pro bono work from creepy doctors who get their kicks feeling up underage girls, but I'm not sure you really want those types around your kids.

My understanding, poor as it is, is that the accused is responsible for much of the cost, or at least whatever insurance won't pay. And since none of this is remotely medically necessary, I would not be surprised if insurance companies balked at covering the testing.

(Walks in, notices the grease fire this thread is becoming, and walks out and drives over Local Hipster Coffee Shop.)

I'll just add that the irony of a bunch of middle-aged dudes discussing "what's fair with trans women and cis women" is not lost on me, and likely not lost on others too.

So much for innocent until proven guilty.

I did try to get more nuanced on the gender thread a while ago but there are people on here who just shut it down, like you mentioned. I’m a former female athlete who used to play on boys teams and have my own experiences

uno made the point that I can see- none of us care at all about allowing a teen to compete where they feel comfortable. But there are a lot of people who will freak out and not understand and take the drastic routes like we’re seeing pop up now

Right?

And if your district is at all competitive, wouldn't you play it "safe" and require all your female athletes to undergo the testing up front, just to avoid the aforementioned scenario? How horrifying is that?

"Ok girls, want to play lacrosse? Go over there and spread 'em."

I hope the AMA threatens to revoke the credentialing of any provider who partakes in this.

What I found hilarious in the previous discussions on this in the gender thread was that cis females were the ones who didn’t get to have an opinion. I’m not at all implying trans women have it the same as cis women, just saying that the thread evolved to that point where I just had to laugh.
but also it was really kind of one or two people promoting that view.

Look, missy, my plate is empty of sandwiches.

Fix it, and quit yer yappin'.

Yeah, the biggest thing is idiots like Drew just completely derailing the discussion with stupid hypotheticals (and their insane laws like in Ohio)

What RaceBoarder was talking about is something that is worth the discussion though. There’s going to be an athlete that competes as a male who is middle of the pack who will transition, not out of malice but to truly live their life as they want, who’s times would be faster than the female field. And like RB said, it’s not right to expect a 16-17 year old to undergo HRT to compete like an adult college athlete.

tl;dr the idiots are ruining the discussion.

Are hypotheticals not allowed in this thread or the entire board?

I think the science has been clear on the college and Olympic athletes. People need to stop whining about that.

i posted the original story here because what Ohio is saying they will do is so dehumanizing

Time will tell who was correct. I think you and others are being incredibly naive.

Your two hypotheticals are:
  • a male will transition in order to play on his girlfriend's/family member's/whatever team to help push them over the hump.
  • a team might see a benefit and actively recruit trans athletes (that aren't inherently better at sports than cis athletes), and then other districts/schools/teams will copy that and then something something something cis athletes will be left off the team.
I mean, sure. I guess one or both of these could happen. Probably right around the time I go buy my second Ferrari.
