The States : red states in a race to the bottom

State politics has been so federalized by Dump I'm not sure the Senate seat isn't also best for Alaska.

Hey, it was some Democrats after all who invented the slogan "states' rights." 😼

The state has been held hostage by Dump ball gagger Dunleavy and his cronies that we desperately need someone different just to get the house in order. Education, infrastructure, basic services are all a fucking mess, and that's even before Dump and Congress took the hatchet to federal funding.

Note:

For those keeping score, there are now 10 incumbent senators who are preparing to give up their seats next year, including five Republicans: Tennessee’s Marsha Blackburn (who’s running for governor), Ernst, Kentucky’s Mitch McConnell, North Carolina’s Thom Tillis and Alabama’s Tommy Tuberville (who’s also running for governor in that state).

Among Democrats, four incumbent senators are retiring — Illinois’ Dick Durbin, Michigan’s Gary Peters, New Hampshire’s Jeanne Shaheen and Minnesota’s Tina Smith — while Colorado’s Michael Bennet, who’s midway through his term, is running for governor with plans to appoint his own successor.

So:

Lock GOP hold: TN, KY, AL
Likely GOP hold: IA
Possible GOP gain: MI, NH
Possible Dem gain: NC
Likely Dem hold: MN, CO
Lock Dem hold: IL

I do not suppose there is any possibility of a sane human gaining this seat?
There's a chance. Likely GOP candidate is Ashley Hinson, who's the rep from the northeast quarter of the state. She's an absolute empty suit who does what her masters tell her to do.

The Dems have some good people running, and for the first time in ages the governor's race should be competitive, so unlike the last decade they shouldn't be an enthusiasm gap.

Having said that, the GOP is probably still a 60-40 favorite if it were held today. If the economy crashes thanks to Trump and the state GOP's desire to go full Kansas, that could improve in the next 18 months.

You guys know much more about this than I do, but wouldn’t CO still be a lock? Does Bennet have to relinquish his seat to run for Gov? The article says he’s middle of his term, so even if he loses the governor race, wouldn’t he still be a Senator? I just thought you can’t have your name on the ballot for two different offices.

I'm waiting to see who the Dems put up in place of Peters. If MI puts up another Zero Sugar Republican like Slotkin to run against Mike Rogers, might as well give the seat to Rogers.

keep in mind, the dems don’t put up anyone. They follow what the primary voters want. So if you don’t want Slotkin, work the primaries and vote.

It’s my biggest pet peeve with politics. (This isn’t directed at you MT, just gesticulating wildly.) People whine and complain about the general elections but the primaries have like 20% the turnout of the general. The primary is the most important election if you want to move the party. And it only takes a small bump in effort to make a difference.

Exactly. Although to be fair the Dems have a habit if not even putting people up in some down ballot races because they fear spending money on races they fear they can't win. Its cowardly.

If you can’t win, minimal resources should be given by the national party. We’re not winning rural Texas for example.

But yeah, you run anyways.
