The States : red states in a race to the bottom

That would require the establishment Democrats to willingly give up power, which they won’t do. They’d rather hang until they’re dead, and even then they expect their staffers to Weekend At Bernie’s them for at least six months ala Feinstein.
Yep, I know. They couldn't wait to get rid of David Hogg under DEI pretenses the minute he suggested primarying any centrist fossils, so I'm not holding my breath.

Since it's going to be our job, maybe I'll take Hovey and Mallory McMorrow's advice and just talk to my neighbors more.

Every person I know wishes, a) their income was higher, b) items they need to purchase were cheaper, and c) their lives were more convenient. Any candidate who comes in and promises those things automatically has a leg up. That is inevitable.

The beauty is, there are actually idealists who think they will deliver on their promises. That's a good thing, because it renews people's interest in participating in government.

It is equally inevitable that their idealism will pretty quickly get crushed and ground into dust by reality. Rent isn't going to get slashed. Buses won't operate for free. There aren't going to be municipal grocery stores in NYC.

But that won't deter future idealists from taking their shot, and that's a good thing.

As for the citizenry? The current idealists just become older, wiser, more jaded, more bitter, but still holding onto a seed of this irrational thought the idealism will somehow win out. You know, sort of like a lot of you guys.

Uh, huh. And how much money did we spend on a military parade, and the bombs that shaved only weeks off of Iran's nuclear program?

Every time you clowns tell us there's no money, no resources, no anything we have yet another example of you pissing money into the wind.

Ah there’s the “jaded ‘centrist’ who’s here to tell us nothing will change so you’re all crazy to try” train. Never late.

The Tennessee Holler is having a Xitter fight with CNBCs Joe Kernon...its kind of awesome!

Listening to Squawk Box on the way to work was hilarious. Kernen went on a tangent for a few minutes about all the bad things that *could* happen if Mamdani does win as Mayor.

And then he wrapped it up with "But I live in New Jersey, so why should I care?"

Which, IMO, encapsulates the media handwringing perfectly.

"Nobody lives in NYC, it's too crowded."

What it really boils down to, as pointed out by Tennesse Holler in that Xitter exchange, is that these assholes will say and do anything that makes their MAGA audience happy. That includes shitting on major cities in any way possible, despite the fact that none of them actually want to put their money where their mouth is, and live next to the moronic/poor/rural (pick at least 2) MAGA cultists that they're baiting with their drivel.

Kernen grew up in Cincy. I wonder why he doesn't live there anymore and instead has a mansion in New Jersey.

Growing up on Long Island, we always cared how NYC was being run. Because what happens there had a lot of effect on us (as it does in Northern NJ, Westchester, southeastern CT, anywhere in the Tri-State area) especially when it came to the economy and jobs.

So, that guy is an idiot.

To be fair, Donnie wasn't offering solutions. He was just telling people what they wanted to hear, and they assumed he had solutions. They wanted him to have solutions.

But, that's what con men do, play on the hopes and dreams of their marks.

Oh he had solutions, it’s just that “tariffs, tax cuts, and mass deportations” are particularly effective solutions.
