The States: North Dakota is Still the Worst

It takes two to tango, when it's all consensual. Dad should have some say, if he's a real man and takes responsibility for his part in it. The final decision still is with the woman, mind you, but what if dad wants to raise that child, wants to have that child as part of his family?

To simply cast off the dad is silly, in those cases, IMO.

Until the dad has to go through 9 months of hell, it's not silly at all.

And if he wants to see that journey through? To have his child?

It's a tough subject, and it's difficult to relate if never having been in that situation, for sure.

Tough shiat. He doesn't have what is essentially a parasite draining his life force for nine months.

Then one cannot take the stance that Scooby made earlier (the spreading seed comment). Can't have it both ways. IMO.

Men should know the deal going in. If you risk getting a woman pregnant, it won't ultimately be your choice, because it's not your ****ing body. Tough ****.

That's my point. Women accept that risk too. Men are "spreading the seed" (c) Scooby, but some women aren't stopping them, either. Women are not blameless. It's a shared responsibility. SOME men know that risk, and think, "Hey, if a kid happens, I'm ready." Yes, it happens.

Re: The States: North Dakota is Still the Worst

I agree with the general sentiment towards Rube but I’d really like the female posters around here to weigh in...

Oh, like those like me with eptopic pregnancies? Yeah, we’re not fans

When it comes to the mother's health, that is a WHOLE different scenario. WAY different. I'm alright with that. I'm talking the general "don't want it, gonna kill it" abortions.

And my point is that they should know that that's only part of it. What they should be thinking is "Hey, if a kid happens, I'm ready, but she may not want to continue the pregnancy, and that will ultimately be her choice to make, and that could suck for me, so..."

Thank you.

I really don’t like abortion debates between two males because of reasons like you said. A male’s comprehension and perspective of pregnancy is abstract at best, and dangerous at worst.

I don't disagree, with the underlined. But the male is not 100% to blame, the woman still has to consent. She also knows the risks. To be clear, I'm talking about the majority of consensual sex, that results in a non-complicated pregnancy. Deutsche brought up a valid exception, and then you have non-consensual sex, obviously.

Yes, women should know the risks too. But again, my point is that one of those risks is NOT that she'll be obligated to continue a pregnancy against her will if her partner wants to have a baby. Just nope, sorry, not how it works.

Ok, there is a disconnect here, I think. My opinion is that the woman should at least hear and consider the man's input about the child. Who knows? She might be afraid he's gonna ditch her, or just send her checks and not actually care for the child (valid concerns). If that's not the case, the man's input could become valid, and a new life is created. You know?

I’m going to be honest, I’ve hated comments like these and not just on abortion. Shutting women out of the conversation is wrong, but just because we’re men doesn’t mean we can’t have an understanding about pregnancies and what they entail.

It’s the equivalent of saying “you can’t have an opinion on contact to the head penalties because you’ve never played hockey.”

Yeah, I have no disagreement with any of that.

Yet here we go, see above replies

If the mother is willing, I'd choose a mother's health over an unborn child any day of the week. I am thinking there are some mothers out there that would sacrifice themselves for the child. I'm not one to judge on that. That is her wish? That is what would be done.

I never said men should be shut out of the debate, I said I don’t like abortion debates that only involve males.

Look, you may not like it but males will never have an actual understanding of pregnancy and all that it entails. And I say this as a husband and father who was there every step of his wife’s pregnancy. I’ve got a pretty good picture of what pregnancy entails, but to even begin to try to understand the physical, biological, mental details of pregnancy? Yeah I’ve got no clue, and neither will any male ever. And to try to debate something that you only have a, at best, 10% understanding of is f-ing stupid. Any abortion debate has to have female participation, on both sides frankly, or it’s ignorant and does absolutely nothing.
