On one hand, yes, we do not expect every single woman out there to be an ob/gyn and know about every single complication that could occur along the way of a pregnancy. And yes, doctors might mis-diagnose or diagnose things too late, when better earlier medical information may have changed the options available.
But on the other hand, if you are a woman and in one of these states and there is a non-zero chance you might get pregnant, you should be aware at this point that the full gamut of medical choices that might be vital to your very survival are no longer available. Maybe you'll luck out and the procedure you need to survive will still be available due to some technicalities, but as pro-choice people were saying when these laws were passed, and has become more evident as these stories continue to come up like clockwork, these laws interfere with the ability of doctors and patients alone to determine the best option for the situation going forward. The pro-choice side has been shouting this since day one and has not been subtle; yes in 99.9% of pregnancies this may not come up, but there is still that .1%.
While I can't prove this, I have a feeling some of these women think they can never be that .1% because that .1% is those other woman, you know, those inner-city welfare queens, but I'm a white suburban mom so of course it can never apply to me because my intentions are pure of heart, not like those evil sluts with hearts of stone.
