Ron Desantis wants to be President and turn the country into Florida. The American people need to thoroughly reject that notion.

The civilized parts of the country will...

Not that the D's can coast, but we also have the Donald Trump induced R Civil War coming in the next 12 months. So that will help a ton. I legit don't see how 30% of R's either vote Trump on a split ticket or just simply stay home out of stupidity. That will make it a ton easier for D's to maintain their holds or even add another flip or two.

Not that the D's can coast,

At all. 40% of this country is hopelessly vile and stupid, and gerrymandering and the EC multiplies that to a 50% share of political power.

The orcs will someday fall off the elecotral cliff but right up until the moment they do they are an existential threat to democracy and the most malignant enemy America has.

Reading the terrain though, I have to at least acknowledge that we are looking at a year on in-fighting on the R side of the aisle.

We know that Dump is considered toxic by a significant portion on the R's. Dump will also burn down DeSantis. Dump's voters will also stay with him and either vote Dumpy if he goes 3rd party or just straight up stay home in Nov. '24 if he's not on the ticket. DeSantis can't win a war of words with him.

I don't see how someone can look at this objectively and not see this being an anchor on the R-party. The 40% of the country you mention has successfully been split, rendering their say even smaller.

Dump was supposed to destroy the GOP in 2016.

All of those voters will do exactly what the Echo Chamber and the party tells them to do. None of the infighting will have the slightest effect on their turnout in 2024. Fox was proven flat out to be lying and they still watch them. There will be no split and no defections. There will be no lessening of their enthusiasm -- it is driven by spite, not reason. The logical contradictions make no difference to them, they are not thinking, they are emoting.

You can't fix stupid. These animals are jammed in the "R" position for the remainder or their senseless, miserable, violent, hateful lives.

I guess by that metaphor I mean that while the goal mouth may be National, the corners are local. School boards, county boards, city councils, circuit judges, state houses . . .

Except this isn't 2016, this is post 2020 where Trump has proven to be an anchor on the party. In 2 straight elections everyone he supports (including himself) struggles and loses. He has been rebuked all over the country and his chosen mouthpiece network is 100% behind DeathSantis. (and he will not forgive the stuff coming out about their feelings towards him) He just isn't the candidate he was 7 years ago.

Raceboarder is right...the War is coming and it is going to really hamper the GOP. They know it too which is why it is already starting. Most of the "moderate" Republicans (the Larry Hogans of the world) are not even hiding they they dont want Trump as the nominee and seem to be willing to have the party lose to make it happen. The grievance agenda is failing miserably and he is going to amp it up to 11. Re-legislating the 2020 Election and 1/6 is a losing proposition and half the party knows it. Election denial and MAGA agendas cost them The Senate, almost cost them the House (in a friggin Midterm where they dont have the Presidency) and cost them state legislatures and Governorships in many states. Where MAGA was running against more mainstream GOPers MAGA lost and often lost badly.

The GOP has 2 Echo Chambers, and they hate each other. The MAGAytes/Qucumbers think because a bunch of bots on Twitter and sketchy networks like Newsmax amplify their stuff that they have more power than they do. The rest of the party thinks because Faux has them on all the time they are in control and people buy their BS. In truth neither has a plurality of the Right and neither has the clout to win in '24. Even if/when they combine, they still need quite the high level of luck to take back the Presidency and gerrymandering will only give them at best a small majority in the House. (which I think will evaporate) People get tired of the carnival barker act fast so you need to replenish with new customers and the GOP is not bringing in new voters. The Dems meanwhile are. The math is stupid...like everything the GOP does.

This doesn't mean the Dems can coast, they have to fight and fight HARD. They just need to not get baited into the stupid BS the GOP keeps trying. They played the Midterms perfect. Let the GOP speak for themselves. The more they talk the worse their polling gets. (until the pollsters put their thumbs on the scales in the lead up to the election to make it seem closer than it is) Let them have their 1/6 investigations and Hunter Biden headlines...it gets them nowhere. They already gutted the CRT argument and they are way overreaching with their Anti-Drag stuff and of course the constant headlines about restrictive abortion laws are not going away. (its what will kill DeathSantis even if he somehow beats Trump...he is overplaying his hand he should have played the "I am more moderate than Trump" card much longer) The only shot they have is if Dems stay home...so it is incumbent on the Democrats to make sure they don't. If the Dems show up, it is all over but the shouting. At worst we will have divided government like we do now and we see how well that is working out for them...especially as Biden just keeps getting things done.

Does not matter. Dumpy will win the Repubs nomination the same way he won it in 2016. He may lose a primary or two to Nerita or Deathsantis, or even Pence maybe, but he'll cruise along, getting 25-35% of the vote from his diehard supporters in every primary, and win a bunch of the true herpa derp states.

And he'll destroy Deathsantis and anyone else running against him rhetorically, the same way he reduced Jeb!!! and L'il Marco to whimpering pools of flop sweat.

It's a race of attrition, and in the end, Donnie's gonna be the last man standing.

The entire GOP was against Dump in 2016. Not only did he win the nomination but then party discipline was such that he took every single GOP voter of whatever stripe along with him to the finish line.

People keep not understanding the Right. They are not a political movement they are a white nationalist cult. Whoever leads the cult is infallible. Contradictions and differences do not matter.

Elections will continue to be 50/50 until the whole edifice collapses and the Right is reduced to its actual popular strength, about 60/40. And that will only happen when we pass a critical mass at which democratic elections are restored. And that will only happen when we regain the Court, which won't be for 20 years unless the Dems actually grow a pair.

Handy doesn't understand. All those so-called moderate Republicans, the never-Trumpers? The people who might vote for Nerita or Deathsantis or someone else? They aren't the Republican party anymore. They may have an 'R' after their name, but they ain't the party.

The Republican party as it stands today is the party of Donald Trump, Matt Gaetz and MTG. The crazy, the Nazi, the unabashed cruelty, and yes, the stupid, isn't a bug. It's a feature. And the more the better.

I don't think Handy is arguing Trump won't get the nomination.

Where I worry more than anything is that the Democrats will continue to fail at getting the message out they are the right party to move America forward, that whatever damage Trump will inflict on the GQP won't matter after 2024 because we'll be right back to worrying about losing Congress instead of dominating representation.

And that is why Nikki Haley the only one who is officially in the race with him right now is not fighting him head on. She thinks she can beat him with his base, and grab all the others. I don't see how that is even possible for any of them.

CPAC straw poll and just reporters asking questions they're all Trumpers.

No one wants to take him head-on, because they don't want him attacking them back directly. So they will try to skirt around the edges, hoping that he is <50% of the party and they can be the other choice >50% eventually flock to. It was everyone else's strategy in 2016 and it worked great!

If the RNC was smart, they’d work with state parties to change their awarding of delegates during the primaries from winner-take-all in most of the states, even if a candidate like Trump won 35% of the vote, to proportional awarding of delegates, like Democrats do. Trump wins 35% of the vote, he receives 35% of the delegates. He may still lead at the end but it might prevent him from clinching outright.

I think they should leave it alone. It is the perfect system for them that winner takes all. They are assured the best candidate possible in that scenario.

And they will swallow his knob afterwards, like Cruz and Romney, no matter how viciously he cuts them, because they are a party of amoral cowards with a constituency of frightened, stupid, superstitious toddlers.

I don't think she thinks she can beat him at all. I think this is a pure attempt to raise her profile and possibly get Trump's VP nod.

I don't think it will work, as Kari Lake would debase herself in ways Haley probably wouldn't, but who knows.

Yes to both of these statements.
